Only NightForce or Leupold Mark 4 scopes will stand that much recoil.

My target reloads develope in excess of 14,000 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

The Tactical Stock on my State Arms Shorty rifle deflects almost to point of touching barrel when firing off bypod and monopod.

I use double hearing protection in right ear only as muffs are occasionally knocked out of location under recoil.

Use of muzzle brakes are required for a 50CAL rifle, but brakes generate much noise for the shooter! Recoil is about like a 20 gage shotgun with my AR-50.

Ok - others may handle the recoil, but these two are the most common scopes used on 50BMG target rifles, because of two things: 1- they can handle the double strike recoil of a 50BMG target rifle with a muzzle brake that reverses recoil direction, and 2- they are fully waranteed for life in case they do fail, as many users have been allowed to do (so far I have over 3000 rounds with each of my Leupold Mark 4 8.5X25X50's).

I stand corrected, Sir.

...and THAT is what a quality scope will withstand AND ALSO why they cost so much. (Schmidt & Bender, U.S. Optics, Nightforce, Leupold Mark 4, etc.)

AWESOME!

Ruined shoulders, bad back, detached retinas are all common side effects of long time trap shooters..Each persons body will only tolerate so much before the wheels start to fall off. I bet it happens to these 50 bmg shooters as well if they have alot of round time with them.

As you get older the vitreous jelly in your eyes will actually change it's composition a bit & shrink. When this happens the jelly can be jarred into the void left and detach the retina. I know, I've had one in each eye. Both of my retinas have been "Spot Welded" in place with a laser.

Seen the videos and looks like a bear to shoot. Had the chance last weekend to shoot one a couple of times and was suprised that the recoil was less than I expected but the compression of air around you from the blast is what suprised me. Would not look to buy one but glad I had the chance to pull the trigger on one a couple of times at the cost of a friend, I think was around $5 a pop.
