I thought this would be my last rifle purchase for a long time since my gun safe is now overflowing. I was actually thinking of giving a free RRA LAR-15 A2 middy to a relative. The good news for me is that I bought another gun safe which has more than doubled my secure rifle storage capacity. I have a feeling the empty slots won't stay empty for very long. That is bad news for those of you who don't care for my long-winded firearms reviews.

What kind of safe do you have? I have a locking hardcase for my AR10 but now I'm suddenly finding myself with 5 rifles and a handgun. Walmart has a gun safe but it looks like I could break into it with a dremmel tool and a pair of pliers.

Not my words but, something to think about...

The price-equals-quality fallacy

By Roger Costello
“We tend to think of higher-priced goods as being of better quality than lower-priced goods; but while You get what you pay for may be folk wisdom, it isn’t always true.”

“In the 1950s, Pepsi competed with Coca-Cola by selling its soda at half the price of Coke and advertising twice as much for the nickel. But more people bought Pepsi after it raised its price, a lesson not lost to other marketers. “

“The price-equals-quality fallacy is exploited in many ways. Many second-tier private colleges and universities make sure the sticker price of their tuition is close to (or even higher than) Harvard’s, Princeton’s, and Yale’s, in the hope that parents and students will take the mental shortcut of equating price with quality.”

“Consumer Reports magazine, which conducts carefully designed tests on all sorts of products from automobiles to toasters to TV sets, often finds lower-priced goods to be of higher quality than those costing much more. For example, in a comparison of upright vacuum cleaners on the magazine’s website in 2006, the $140 Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 was rated better overall than the $1,330 Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Edition or the $700 Oreck XL21-700. The Eureka was also better than the highly advertised $500 Dyson DC150.”
Unspun by Brooks Jackson and Kathleen Hall Jamieson

Now, I'm not saying that that LWRC isn't quality stuff, but the fact that someone would equate something as being better because it's 2x as much as the others, just reminded me of that article.

I don't have an LWRC so I can't give it praise. I don't have a Colt either so I also won't give that praise. But I do have some LMT lowers that cost more than my friends Rock Rivers and CMMGs, and I can't seem to figure out why the LMTs would be better quality than the RRA or the CMMGs. Maybe I'll just chalk it up and join the gang and say "only expensive stuff are quality!", but I wouldn't be 100% honest if I did that.

And since I'm being honest here... The reason why I bought (and buying) LMT products, is because the "label whore" in me isn't as suppressed as it use to be.

I think everyone's first purchase should be a good safe. Fort Knox is number 1. Followed closely by Browning, Liberty, and Cannon. There are some other good ones too, but these are the only ones I looked at.

I would go 12 gauge steel minimum, 10 gauge even better! and 8 gauge even better still.

But really, any safe is better than no safe at all and even the cheap safes such as Sentries and Stack-On's do offer some measure of security.

Whatever safe you get, bolt it down! If 4 guys can move in a safe, that means 4 guys can move it out. But a safe that is in a tight place, and bolted down, it will make it harder for them to take.

No safe is 100% either. Fort Knox may be the best, but even they can be broken into by the most determined and experienced theif.

Wow dude. If only I could buy rifles like you have been!! Haha, that's so awesome. Very jealous. Although last year (200 I got my SA Socom II, two lowers (Spikes and Noveske), and a S&W M&P 15T. Don't have the 15T yet but I will soon. So I guess last year was a pretty good year. I worked every chance I got OT and side jobs to get that stuff. I'm surprised the wife hasn't freaked yet.

Oh, and it's good to have you back Wild Rice. Daredevil isn't making friends is he.

I got home from work moments ago and logged on to get the phone number to SGC and call to see if they had some in stock and they sold out already. I hate the internet.

Don't worry man, I am sure they will get more in soon. They had had a bunch just before Xmas too and those all got sold out too. This new batch of 15 was only in stock 3 days! Keep on checking the site everyday.

In the meantime, just be satisfied that I will be picking mine up this weekend, I will enjoy it for the both of us. I will take pictures for the both of us. Here is to us!

That's not a bad price with Troys included...
