Optics Decision For My Ar
I'm trying to decide what kind of scope to get for my Colt AR15. I have a 16" barrel with a YHM free float XL Specter handguard with BUIS for the front and rear. I've been looking at the EOTECH model but not sure which to get. The weapons main use is for when TSHTF So the most durable, accurate, and moderatly priced scope would be the best. Help me out here people Thanks

Get the Eotech 512. Uses AA batteries (the 511 does not), and doesn't have all the crap you don't need on the higher end models.
I have one on my AR.

For SHTF the Eotech 512 would be a good choice.

And to summarize the Eotech models, the 511 is like a compact model (which is why it doesn't use AA's - to save space), the 516 has the brightness/on and off buttons on the side, which is good if you're mounting it close to a BUIS, 551 lets you use NV and is also compact, and the 552 is the larger version of the 552.
I think there are a few other models as well, but that sums up most of them. TBH, having the buttons on the side is a nice feature, and NV compatibility is completely useless for most non LEO/military users.

I would recommend aimpoint, any version ML2 and up.
but if you MUST have an Eotech, get an AA version, and DO NOT put alkalines in it. pay the extra couple bucks for lithium batteries.

Agreed. Aimpoint all the way. If you happen to be a millionaire go w/ an ACOG though.

Im an EOtech fan myself, I replaced my Aimpoint with an eotech in Iraq. I went through 5 or 6 aimpoints and they just kept breaking and loosing zero. I know that other people have had really good experiences with aimpoints, but I just have a bad taste in my mouth from that experience.
I used a 552 in Iraq, and it always worked when I needed it to, and always kept perfect zero.
I wouldnt recomend the 557, I bought one without actually looking at the BDC reticle. The only way you can actually see the dots are if you have a magnifier.
Be careful with the 553, they have been having problems with the batteries losing connection during reciol. L3 has a upgrade kit that you can get for free that fixes the problem though.
I like any version that uses the Surefire 123A batteries, they last forever, and save more space than the AA versions.

I have both, and I like em both. But my go to AR15 has an Aimpoint Comp ML3. My other AR15 has an Aimpoint Comp ML2. My M1A is also going to have an Aimpoint (micro h-1).
The thing I like about the EOtech is the 65moa ring around the dot. Something the Aimpoint doesn't have.
