M&P or RRA tactical carbine?
I'm down to the M&P15A or the Tactical CAR A4 from Rock River for a first AR purchase. The S&W is chrome lined, but I like some of the extras on the RR like the Hogue grip and the trigger. Any input would be appreciated. Looking to add a CMMG 6.8 chrome lined upper shortly thereafter.

I own a S&W MP15A and I love mine. Of course I have heard great things about RRA. What are your purposes for the rifle and what are their respective prices?

Both are around $1050 out the door. As this is my first AR it's mostly just for casual target shooting, varminting, SHTF, and deer/hogs when I can afford a larger caliber upper and some optics.

Well I am a Armalite Fanboy. So I must chime in with... Go Armalite. They are somewhat cheaper than a M&P and perform the same. Then again pretty much all AR's are the same... if you are in the same price category (i.e. never buy Olympic). BTW Armalite is chrome lined, unless you buy the stainless.

As mentioned before, pretty much all AR rifles are the same. I went with the Smith & Wesson myself, just because I wanted something different from my friends who own Bushmasters and Colts, plus my FFL dealer was running a special on them, while all the other brands they had were over a grand.

I hear better things about RRA than S&W but I am sure either one will make you happy. Just get the one that has the set up you prefer, you should be good either way. The S&W might have a mail in rebate also.

I really like them both. I like Armalite too and will be looking for an AR-10 sometime down the road I think. I haven't even purchased my first one and I've already been bitten by the black gun bug.

Yeah, I think S&W was offering a deal of "Buy a rifle and get a Sigma pistol for $100."
Del-Ton makes good rifles, that are somewhat cheaper, 2-300 dollars. As you said this would be for targets and varmits, I'd say take a look at them. I've actually never heard a bad thing about them, and I'll likely get my next black rifle from them.
PKFirearms is also a really good place to look around.
You could also call Pete from AR15sales.com (Legal Transfers, LLC.) and talk to him. He's a good guy.
(Sorry for the shameless plugs, I ordered my upper from PKFirearms and went to Legal Transfers and picked up my lower from Pete.... )

I'd just prefer as much chrome lining as possible. While I always clean my guns after each shoot, from what I understand the chrome lining makes it easier to do.
BTW I've read the AR-15 stickies and it's still a tough call. I really value all your opinions, so thanks again.
