Rails
Hey everybody...I have a few questions. I have had my S&W MP 15 for about 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. The BRD has bit me hard and I want to change some things up. I want to replace the standard handrails with a non-free float handrail system. I found this one below from Bravo Company and it looks pretty good. Any thoughts? I am open to any ideas or other prodeuct or possible a free float system. but, if you like a free float system I would like to hear a compelling argument. Thanks everyone!

I had some MI non-free float rails, and they're nice, but kinda fat. If I were you, I'd drop the extra bread on some Daniel Defense Omega rails. They're free float, but do not require any gunsmithing. They drop-in, in place of your standard guards. They're easily removable, rock solid, light, slim, (not even as wide as the delta ring), and provide a continuous top rail with the upper receiver. I have some midlength Omegas, and they're awesome.

what model of m&p15 do you have? i have the 15t and it comes with a nice rail setup, (check out s&w website) if its what your looking for, s&w can supply them to you, and keep the weapon manufacturer complete thoughout.

What are you looking to put on them? Just a VFG and a light, or have you got something else in mind?
Those weigh in at 9.9 oz and are $129; Alternatively Botach has a set of KZ non-free float rails weighing in at 10 oz and cost $50 ( KZ 4 Rail Handguard). I had the KZ rails prior to going to a LaRue FF rail, and they locked up tight enough for me, I just wanted a longer rail.
If you look around some you can probably find a set of used KAC RAS rails for around what the MI number would cost you.
Really it's going to depend on what you want out of your AR in the end. Figure it out on paper and shop around before you start ordering stuff.

The rail on the 15T is made by Troy, same as the flip sights.

As mentioned the MI drop ins are FAT, and I have a set in the "box-o-parts". They become really "obese" when you put rail covers on them.
The set I have the bottom section isn't really tight and wiggles too much for me, hence them being in the parts box.
For non free float handguards that are slimmer take a look at the Troy DI or Samson DI rails (DI = drop in) I have a set of the Samson.
Others to look at are the Surefire M73, and a favorite of mine are the KAC RAS.
Free floats are nice, but for a 16" carbine (unless all you do is bench rest shoot for acurracy), they are not needed.

Thanks for the input, I only want a VFG and a flashlight to be mounted...nothing else, for now at least.

MI makes good stuff I had the same ones before I changed out my upper yes they are a bit fatter but I got big meat hooks so I liked that about them Daniel defense makes good stuff to but IMO they are not worth the extra $$$ for what I will be using my rifle for I FF rails are nice but like has been said they are not nessesary most of us whether we admit it or not have them for the tacticool look it gives our rifle with or without FF rails my rifle shoots better than I can
If the MI rails give you the look you want go for them about the only benefit of FF rails is that you can mount your optics on them which is not advised with DI rails
