ACOG -> Worth it?This is a discussion on ACOG -> Worth it? within the AR Talk forums, part of the Long Gun Talk category; OK. What are your opinions on the Trijicon ACOG scope? I'm thinking the TA31 version, but any version is good for this thread.
Is it ...

Is it worth all that money (used is also an option)? Do the daytime/night time self lighting optics make this siting tool a great value? If you wouldn't recommend an ACOG what would you recommend?

I've got an EOTech on my AR, but wish I had the budget for an ACOG... where's the drooling smiley when you need it?

IMHO... no. I think the EOTech or Aimpoint is nearly as good for MUCH less $$.

Not sure what you will use it for but I have heard of them having issues with washout when being used indoors to clear houses and such. I have only shot an ACOG a couple times and can tell you that they are a beautiful optic for decked out range shooter. If you will be using it indoors and in low lighting then you might want to looking into it a bit further before buying one.
I do not own either but from my experience shooting with them I personally prefer an Eotech.

Personally I think they're great, though I can't afford one yet.
I work at a range and have met a friend there who has several (4 or 5, I think), and he's kind enough to let me shoot his rifles.
I find the use of them to be rather intuitive and straightforward.
Are they worth the cost? Hard for me to say. But I will put it this way: If money is no object - go for it. If you're like me and live paycheck to paycheck, save your money for your rent instead.

best to have both... IMHO...
eotech for less than and 100yds and acog for out there
acog does limit your peripheral vision a tad... sooooo you couldn't see a bogey sneaking in on you...

I have one with a C-more red dot for close range/indoor stuff. I was thinking about putting the ACOG on the range gun/SHTF traveling gun haha.
I realize that ACOG isn't the best under 50 yrds so I was considering it as a quick target acquisition mid range optic.
Are my assumptions anywhere near correct?
As far as cost, I have been saving like a mofo and haven't been to the range in four months ><. I doubt I will get one right away, unless I can find it for the right price. That being said I have enough right now for a EoTech or aimpoint but I haven't considered them yet.

Depends on what your intentions are. I have a ACOG and its a great reflex sight, for longer range applications. If you want something for Close quarters then I perfer my AR with a EoTech as it much easier to get a sight picture quickly. The ACOG also has alot of metal around the site window and in closed in areas it can be bothersome when operating with both eyes open, as there is a blob of black effecting view--this is less of a problem in longer ranges.
For just plinking I have a Bushnell ACOG clone, thats only $160 and works great.

I have a TA01NSN, 2 TA31F, and a TA31A, and a TA50-4
Are they worth the price? I bought all mine used.
Put a mini red dot on top and you have the best of both worlds.
