Has this happened to anyone??? w/Pictures

2nd time out to the range today with the brand new Stag, gun fully cleaned and lubed, shooting 55gr M-195 FMJ and got about 3 rounds through. The bolt would not move forward to chamber another round and was locked with about 1 inch before the chamber. Took it apart and below is what I found, my buffer retainer spring was jammed in the bolt carrier and my buffer retainer is busted, it fell right out.

I know this is not common for 2nd time out, is this an easy fix? From what I know the receiver extension hold the retainer in, but it falls in and out now. I'm going to order a replacement right now(retainer and spring) and a wrench for the stock, to get it off.

Am I on the right track? Does the receiver ext need to be farther up? Should I use some locktite when i put the receiver bolt back on? I take it this is an easy fix...

A little advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Second hand here, but my good friend had something similar happen. His didn't come all the was out though. Contact Stag they have a lifetime warranty and should fix it for you, or at least send you the parts.

Did you put the lower together yourself, or was it a complete lower?

It was a complete lower. I was thinking about sending it back but I really don't want to be without it for long, i just got it.

If I have the wrench and the parts is it a hard job to do? It doesnt seem complicated and I feel I have enough experience to do it myself but...would it be good to send it back to stag to have them give it a 1 over?

Your call on sending it back, but were I in your shoes I'd really consider sending it back. I can totally understand not wanting to be without your new baby for long... But if one thing has F'd up; you do stand a chance of something else going wrong. It's not hard to fix yourself, ARFCOM has a tutorial on putting together a lower, and many other things. Which I may even have a copy of. If you want I can PM the link to you so you don't have to dig around for it.

Minimum I'd at least contact Stag regarding it, they may send you the parts free of charge.

buy a replacment part install it and try it again, thats a pretty cheap part there maybe $5 however i would still contact Stag and ask them to send you the replacement part that way you will have a spare. all most all the parts are made independently so unless its the actual receiver that was messed up i wouldn't worry about something else breaking until you cross that bridge.

if after that i would send it back.

From looking at the pics, the receiver extension is not turned in far enough to hold the retainer in place.

To install the new retainer pin and spring, just drop the spring in the hole and put the pin on top of it. Use a butter knife, or similar, to push the pin down in the hole and screw the receiver far enough in to hold the retainer down. (See my post a few down for the picture)

Yeah, thanks guys. I just ordered the parts and the castle nut wrench for the carbine stocks. I'll give that a try but I'm still going to call Stag on Monday and get them to send me spare parts as well.

Man, what a way to cut short what was shaping to be a wonderful day. Oh well...

Thanks again.

Do I need that special wrench or is there something else I can use?
