Agreed. Whoever put that lower together didn't screw the buffer tube in far enough. That catch was pushed up into the line of fire so to speak of the bolt carrier moving in and out of there and the carrier probably destructed it during operation.

Yeah, you will need a special tool for the nut on the stock. They aren't too expensive. What's it called, a stock wrench? I forget, lol.
Anyway, I took a quick picture of my lower to show you where the proper placing should be. You can see how the receiver extension holds the retainer pin down.

If it's an M4 style collapsible stock then yes you need what is called a "spanner wrench" to back the lock nut off.
A2 style stocks are simply held in there with a screw though the butt end into the buffer tube.

I ordered this one. Yeah, my receiver extension is not that far forward, it was probably put together at the factory like that i guess.

Yeah, check this out, my buffer slides in and out. The tip is bent forward like the buffer nailed it off. It needs to be like your photo above when i put it back in.

Did anything happen to the bolt carrier?

It was sort of stuck forward because the retainer spring was jammed under it when I took the upper off..but I just pulled the spring out. I just did a cleaning and inspection session and the BCG looks good. One thing I did notice is that were the buffer retainer goes in the hole, the front side of it, opposite the buffer tube it looks like it slightly bent the hole. It almost looks like the hole is burred on the front side of it and 2mm below the hole on the outside i can see an outline of stressed metal. I'm going to send it back to Stag just to be safe, if that hole opened during the stresses it will let the retainer move in there and it might break the metal under the stresses of firing it next time.

one more reason to buy a parts kit and put the thing together yourself
actually it's retainer pin so no big deal, it does not do anything important such as move something back and forth, it is only there to hold the buffer retainer. just put the spring back in with the retainer and tighten down the stock tube until it hits the retainer and you will be all set. no down time and no waiting for stag to get off their imcompetent asses. |
