I display mine in a gun rack on the wall but have one of those Wal-Mart cases to travel with.

I got the cheapest soft case at my local Cheaper Than Dirt store. My AR goes from inside my house, to the trunk of my car, to the range and back. No real need for the "tactical" stuff here.

For me it depends on how guns many I'm taking shooting.
Both cases I have are from cheaper than dirt. The first is the MOLLE case it's great for 1 carbine & a couple pistols. MOLLE-201 - MOLLE Ultimate Rifle Case Coyote Tan Weapons Case Zippered - Manufactured by: Cheaper Than Dirt. Or it will hold my long range upper attached to a lower in the main compartment, and an M4 upper in the smaller. No room for pistols or much else though this way. The other case I have is the MOLLE double rifle bag, I really like this one, but it does get to be a heavy SOB when loaded out. MOLLE-182 - MOLLE Double Rifle Drag Bag OD Green 48" Long 12" High Quality - Manufactured by: Cheaper Than Dirt I was looking at the LaRue site the other day and saw this one: Storm Case # iM3100 Hard Case AND Soft Case Combo Eventually I'll probably go this route... but who knows for the price I could get 1k rounds of .223 62gr HP silver bear.

I got a Pelican 1750 which is 50.5" long (interior dimension). My 18" SPR (when finished) I believe will be 19" [Lower w/PRS stock] + 18" [SPR Barrel] + 2" [FH] = 39".
Add 2" of padding on all sides, that leaves 7.5" of usable extension. Subtract the 2" from the FH and and a 6-7" suppressor in the future. I didn't want to have to unscrew the suppressor (that is if I don't go with a QD) every time I put it in the case, so I planned ahead and got the longest Pelican case. With a hard case, consider your future modifications. Having more foam will never hurt.
