DPMS Kitty Kat Velocities

If anyone cares, there is an article on the 7" Kitty Kat in the July issue of "Guns and Weaopns for Law Enforcement". The author includes chrony data that says he averaged 2581 fps for the Rem UMC 45 gr JHP load, and 2477 for good 'ol WWB 55 gr FMJ. Extrapolating, I figure I can expect 2400 or a bit better with Hornady 60 gr TAP. That's plenty of velocity for the polymer-tipped bullet to do its job, and makes me feel better about having this thing as part of my collection. From all the other talk floating around out there (not really here, more like other AR-themed sites), I was expecting much lower velocity, something like 1800-2000 fps. That's obviously not the case.

Polymerhead, thanks for posting that.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who feel the shorty's are a waste of time because they do lose some velocity compared to a regular 16 inch barrel which is also true, but not as much as many people think.

Of course the powder used in the loads (faster burning) will produce more velocities than others, but fragmenting velocities can be obtained with a shorty nonetheless as long as people keep everything in the context a shorty is meant for (not 500 yard sniping obviously).

I'm tempted to go though the process of getting a SBR. I'm not going to lie I want one just for the "bad ass" factor.
