First AR range trip

Well I bought a Bushmaster Predator. I am a little disappointed in the accuracy. I was shooting some Winchester 223 Remington 55 gr.Full Metal Jacket and some Federal 55 gr. I could not get good groups. Any suggestions as to better ammo?

Give us more details about it, distance you were shooting, group size, scope or irons, wind conditions ect. I believe that BM has a 1/8 twist and would be better off with a little heavier bullet, 62gr maybe.

If your going for tight groupings your best off to load your own rounds. As far as factory ammo goes I have heard good things about Black Hills match ammo.

I started at 60M and then set at 100M. My groups fell apart so I moved back to 50M. I did not measure but I would guess the best group was 2 or 3 inches. The scope I was using was a Mueller APV 4.5–14×40 AO off my target rifle. It was calm when I started but the wind came up (as I shot my best group) to about 25 MPH.

if its irons youre not going to get good groups at 100, maybe at 50, but theres just a lot more error in iron sights

Im even thinking of painting my front sight post because I have a hard time seeing the black sight post on a black target. I need the contrast

Agred. I took my Mga AR-15 with a CMMG 16" midlength 1:7 twist barrel out on its maiden voyage last week. Using iron sights only I couldnt even hit the 6" shoot-n-cee taget at 75 yards. Only managed to hit it once or twice while trying to zero the sights. Just too far away.

Placed target at 50 yards and after zero on sights was in, I was placing groups within 3 inches consistently. Not happy with 3" groups but hey, it was first time I had ever fired an AR-15 in my life. I am also used to scopes with at least 3x magnification.

I own a Bushy Shorty with a 1-in-9 barrel. It'll shoot .5" groups with match bullets, carefully reloaded. I'm lucky to get 2" groups @ 100 yds with the kind of fodder that the OP is shooting. Even when I use Win. or Remington bulk 55gr. fmj when reloading for the Bushy, I don't get good groups.

Best bulk bullets I've ever used were IMI 55gr. fmj. Can't get them any longer.

I'd try a little heavier bullets with tha 1-in-8 barrel. You should be shooting 1/4" groups @ 100 yds. with your Predator.

i have the remington verion of your gun.

mine is 1-in-9 twist and can shoot 3/4 to 1 inch groups with factory ammo.

try some Winchester Ballistic Silvertips in 55gr
or Hornady 55gr V-Max

easy 1" groups with those to factory rounds

i'm looking into some the BH loads now. not sure what grain to go with but something above 60grains should be under 1" groups i've been told

With that ammo and a scope, I used to get 2" groups with my old RRA 16" at 100yds.

This rifle doesn't come with iron sights, so you must be using an optic. If so, which one? Or have you bolted on some iron sights?

You did not say if you were shooting offhand versus a bipod or other stabilizing device. If offhand it would be difficult to blame the gun.

With my Bushy Varminter (24" barrel) I am about 0.5 MOA or 1/2 inch and 100 yards, but the ammo does matter.
