Silicone Cloth?

Does anyone wipe down their AR with a silicone cloth after cleaning it? I remember along time ago my dad was cleaning his deer rifle and told me that I should always wipe it down with one.
So is it just "old man" hype? Worth any value? do any damage?

Although I don't have an AR (or a silicone cloth), I'll answer yes to that. I'd do it if I had one, and it looks like you can only get them online. I'll eventually order one.

My dad does this as well. After you get some oil on it and use it a little bit, you rarely need ot put more oil on it, Just wipe the gun down when your done cleaning, and it removes the finger prints and protects the metal and wood.

I bought one at Wal-mart and it works great, no need to add oil!

I use a silicon coated cloth as the final cleaning before I put my guns away. It does a very good job of protecting the finish, just about any gun store should have 'em for a couple of bucks. FWIW, all the silicon cloths I have ever had did not need any additional oil added to them, once they get super dirty you just toss them out and get another one....

Yea, you can get them at walmart for not much money.

Its almost like Wax on a car. Really shines up a gun and leaves a little protective barrier.

I use it on all of my guns! Exp like you carry gun that gets worn and carried around, its a nice idea to wipe it down 1-2 times a week as you take it off before going to bed or before you put it on in the mornign or someting

Is this because its not needed because of the finish? What's the reasoning behind this? I'm new to ownership of ARs and it seems everywhere you turn that everyone it talking about clean this do this do that- although this is a battle proven weapon- i think the forums are killing me!!!

It won't hurt it, but I don't oil the outside of my AR's at all. I don't want dust, dirt, grime sticking to Besides, those cloths leave enough fuzz behind when you wipe down the phosphate coating

Good "yes" but they leave to much yellow fuzz on my AR10. I'll stick to my old Black T-shirts and CLP or any good gun oil. Less fuzzzzzzzzz Al tho they are great on regular blued guns with a shinny smooth finish.
