My wife has the AR bug....
I really don't have any opinion about AR-15's. To me, they're just psycho expensive. Sure, they're fun to shoot. They have a great feel to them. But I don't think they have a feel that justifies the price difference.
This last weekend, my wife got to shoot my buddy's DPMS Panther. The thing had no rear sight on it, she wasn't in full control of the weapon, but she loved it anyway. (None of us could hit much without a rear sight in the darn thing) (Seems really random when the board will let me embed a video and when it won't) Video of Jenny with an AR-15 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Now she wants an AR. But they're expensive. And the ammo's expensive! I have no choice. The woman wants an AR, I must comply. I'm thinking of getting one 9mm. To help alleviate the wallet's suffering and so we can consolidate ammo costs. Anybody have suggestions?

Her smile at the end says it all!!!
Have you considered building one? Buy a stripped lower and a kit from J&T Distributing (or similar, but I like J&T) and build it up! It is fun and a great way to really know how your rifle works! You'll spend somewhere in the $700 range! (to get started...the all hell breaks loose!)

Yep, or buy the upper and lower seperately and you would be surprised it will also save you some money,

I just built this one from a kit:
![]() Cost of the M4A3 parts kit with the removable handle, sling, and 1 mag was $525 delivered. The upper receiver was built already. The kit included everything but the stripped lower. I bought a CMMG Lower from Aim Surplus for $113.96 delivered to my FFL. Aim now has some Superior Arms lowers for $79.95 plus shipping. So you could build a pretty decent AR for $605 or even less if you buy a kit without the removable carry handle. I've never assembled an AR before, I followed some instructions on AR15.com. Took me about an hour to assemble it, including the time it took to look for my tools. Just beware, AR's are addicting. I got my first one around Christmas, Built the one above Monday evening, now planning on ordering a couple more receivers for future projects.

Just get one. She will love it. You will love it.
If the cost of ammo is too much for you (it is for me) get a .22 LR conversion. If I recall it's about $150. |

Conversion Kits: Midway shows them on b/o too. The Ciener website has them listed but for more money. Dang it!
