Got the new AR to the range yesterday... (match report p2)

I'm very happy with it (target was at 100 yards)... Put 70 rounds through it yesterday, with no malfunctions. Seems to be a bit of a tack driver. This is just the round I was guessing with. Hornady 75gr. BTHP with 22 grains of H4895 and regular Winchester small rifle primers. Have got some Varget, Rel-15, and a couple others to load up next week.

I will say, though, That was actually my best group. Several of the other groups were like the one you see by the handle of the calipers... 3-4 shots in almost one hole (same zero every time... I've read the "why I like 10 shot groups" post on ARFCOM), then a flier about an inch or inch and a half away (the flier on that bull is right at the crease in the paper in the 8-ring)... Turns out that since I don't do much bench shooting (mostly slinged up high-power), I wasn't concentrating on keeping the same pressure on my shoulder every time, so my zero would change slightly. It also didn't help that the sling swivel (sans sling) was on the sand bag, and with the recoil, I can't say that it was in the same place every time. The good thing is, though, that as it heated up, the zero didn't change in any preceptible way

BTW, it's a MEGA lower, with a J&T Bull Barrel rifle kit (everything but a stripped lower) with a ProMag scope mount and a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 scope. It's got the stock trigger and a Badger Gen-2 tac-latch. The barrel is a 24" stainless bull barrel. I've got $730 in the rifle as you see it, plus $40 in the mount + $80 in the scope (Natchezss cloesout )... It was the cheapest way I could see to build it, which is pretty much exactly what I wanted (and I didn't have to worry about headspace or anything as the upper came assembled!)... though, I'll be putting in a trigger at some point, here.. It's not any worse than the Garand or M1A, but it's definately not a match trigger, either.

Mike

That rifle's obviously a great shooter. It'd be scary to think about how small your groups might be with a better trigger and/or upgraded scope!

I'm also interested to see how it goes down.. A better trigger, and more load development, and I should be good to go... We'll see...

My wife's had a suppressor and mine had an M203...

They were good dreams...

i would recommend the RRA 2 stage trigger, it helps a lot to stabilize your shots. His scope is fine its only 50 yards, as long as he is consistant in trigger pulling and has consistant ammo during the zeroing in of the scope.

It's a 50 yard smallbore target, but those groups were at 100 yards.

Actually, the RRA was the one I was looking at... Or the JP one... I'd like to get away with a decent trigger for less than a couple hundred, either way...

I suppose I could do a 24x scope, but eh... This was cheap and general info I found on it, it seems to be about the best one of the cheap scopes. I'm not worried about it... About the only thing a higher $$ scope gives you over this one is possibly more consistant click/minute ratio throughout the whole adjustment range, slightly better zero holding at different zoom levels, only slightly better optics (though, these are already fully-multi-coated), a name brand, a gold ring around the scope, and about $400 less in my wallet.

I've heard good things about the RRA triggers. I'm using the JP trigger/hammer combo, as I really wanted a single-stage that felt about the same as my Remmy 700s with Timney triggers. My Bushy pulls at just under 3#, no overtravel, no creep. I like being able to adjust the overtravel and creep.
