kind of bad pics due to cell phone but i'll post every thing i got from del-ton and then i'll post the lower..

ok i got the upper completed and the stock and the lower parts kit(sorry don't have pics of part kit) then i bought the lower

put it all together in less then an hour using tools i had in my garage...here it is when i finished

then added a walmart scope...

then i added a walmart 30mm red dot with a riser and added 2 bolt on rail to the handguard for a bipod and accessories...and finally got my PMAGS in....oh and then i painted it..haha...the entire rifle and everything has run me right at about &680.00....

let me know if you have any questions...

My build will end up costing me $638.96 including shipping costs.

Fire For Effect M4 Parts Kit $525 from a guy on Glock Talk (he still has more). The FFE M4 kits come with a removable carry handle, sling, and 1 30 rd. magazine.

CMMG stripped lower 113.95 with 1 cent shipping.

FFL is a buddy of mine and does the transfer for free.

But you only save money on the kits if they are exactly what you want, buying individual parts gives you a custom rifle that is exactly what you wanted.

I started with the Del-ton midlength kit for $465. You get about $10 off if you're a member of ar15.com. Look for Del-ton's thread about the discount on ar15.com. Then I bought a stripped lower receiver locally for $109 + tax. No FFL fees needed. At this point I had everything to build the basic rifle.

Del-Ton, Inc. AR-15 16" Mid-Length Rifle Kit

I ordered 4 magazines from Wholesale AR15 Magazines at 44MAG.com for about $50. And a rear flip up sight from Cheaper Than Dirt - America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter for about $60. I later bought a used carrying handle so the rear flip up sights are sitting on the shelf right now. I'll use them when I get optics later.

Mind if I jump in (hijack?) with a noob question?

My brother told me he has a "Bushmaster barrel with handle" ( I assume upper ??) "pre-ban, never been fired" he'll let me have for $100. Said he would send me a pic, haven't seen one yet. Is that a good deal, and a good starting point? If I go non tacti-cool, what's the minimum outlay I'm looking at here?

Not sure I trust him, he has a track record of scamming family members, but sometimes he comes thru.

I'll try to get more info from him soon.

If he has a complete upper for you, you can get a complete lower for ~$250. That would be a very affordable AR.

Complete uppers are like $400-500, roughly. So $100 is a great deal. However, it's not a great deal until you have it in hand and paid cash.
