The Impact Cover snaps firmly onto the top of the PMAG™ via interlocking tabs (unlike aftermarket dust covers) and can be quickly removed with one hand. Fitted into place, the Impact Cover provides impact protection for the feed lips, prevents dirt/dust intrusion, and eliminates distortion of the feed lips caused by long-term loaded storage. When separated, the Impact Cover serves as a magazine tool that facilitates unloading and disassembly. A lanyard hole is included to prevent part loss.

I still wonder why it's needed. XD mags can stay loaded without an issue. Steel AR mags have been loaded without an issue.

Unlike metals, polymers are very susceptible to creep. Many polymers subjected to a load that is below but close to their yield strength will very slowly plasticly deform. So where a full PMag is just fine for a few days fully loaded if you left a PMag fully loaded for months the plastic feed lips would deform permanently. To keep this from happening the cover was made to keep the load off the feed lips for longer term storage.

I'm a fan of them. That or mag-pul followers in USGI mags... The cost difference is minimal so I generally go w/ Pmags.

Minimal?

I get my mags from Wholesale AR15 Magazines at 44MAG.com CProducts with MagPul followers for $9.99. Free shipping on $200+ orders. That's 21 mags for $209.79. (I split the mags with a friend)

Lease expensive PMag I've found id $14.99+ $0.01 shipping. That's $15.00 each. If I buy 21 PMags that's $315.00.

Price difference on 21 Mags is $105.21. I could have had 10 more mags for that price.

You can find PMAG's for $13- check gunbroker. So $13*21 w/ shipping is $283.95. So yes they are more in the grand scheme of things- but some people feel they are better and worth the added cost. It's all personal preference.

There are a few reasons why I like the magpul mags. I don't think they're the best thing since sliced bread, but I don't worry about using them either.

#1 the internal ridge to keep the rounds stacked properly even under a lot of shaking and firing
#2 both the 30 round versions (with and without windows) that I have are smooth as silk and even are easier to load. A huge improvement over USGI.

Though I have been hearing a lot of negatives about the 20 round Pmags with internal clearance problems.

For what it's worth, my favorite mags are steel. I know many mags are aluminum and work fine, but I still prefer steel and will take a better beating in comparison, though I will only buy the black teflon steel when I can.

Admittedly, I use mostly magpul followers in nearly all of my mags except for the few Hartsford Horsey mags I have which already had the good green followers in them to begin with so I've left them alone for now. I don't use them very often anyway.

Whats the deal with the 20 rounders? I was gonna order some just on the strength that the 30 rounders are so good.
