Love my PMags, and my USGI ones with the magpul follower. I have yet to have a jam with either (even doing a lot of rapid fire). The old standard followers I had jam frequently.

What's the purpose of the cap on the PMags? It says "USE TOP IMPACT COVER WHEN STORING MAGAZINE LOADED". Why?

Yes, but I was told by MagPul to use it for extended storage. Like a mag that will sit in a safe as a go-to gun. It puts pressure on the round, forcing it away from the feed lips.

Good to know that hardwarz. I just got my first pmag and loaded it up and of course put the cover back on.

That's what I figured but why do polymer mags need it but steel ones don't?

they don't "need" it - I haven't heard or seen of any PMags deforming the lips, bit it will help keep the mag free of debris and is cheap insurance.

I'm sure they say to keep the covers on when loaded to appease the lawyers.

No. I was also told by MagPul that if you're using a mag pouch, you don't need to use the cover. It's only suppose to be used for EXTENDED periods of time in storage with the mag loaded.

I mean who the hell want to have the mag covers on while in battle? That's one extra thing you have to worry about.

Did they say why?
