i believe the monarch stuff is steal cased. that being said it really is personal beliefs on steal cased ammo, some hate it others are ok with it. i personally will use it for shooting at junk at the river but for accuracy shooting i use federal 5.56

I just shot Monarch at my last service rifle match and had my highest score since I started shooting the matches last year.

Talking

From what I read on the intarweb, Monarch is like Wolf ammo in that it is a bit underpowered.

This quote is from M4Carbine.net, by Grant - a trusted source in my book.
Take with as much salt as you need for palatability.

Quote:
Often times, we see crap ammo run just fine in RRA, DPMS, BM, etc, but will not run in Colt, LMT, ADS, Noveske, BCM, etc. The reason for this is because the first three companies use gas ports around .069. The last four companies generally have gas ports around .063.

The lower tier AR manufacturers ASSume that their customers are going to run the cheapest ammo available so to avoid frequent customer calls about short stroking, they use larger gas ports. The upper tier AR manufacturers ASSume that their customers are going to use mil-spec ball (at worst) and use smaller gas ports so that their weapons are not over gassed.
Makes perfect sense to me, you don't need premium gas in a Geo Metro, and you wouldn't run regular in your Mustang Cobra.

Yeah, I own an LMT, doesn't mean I wouldn't own any other AR. I just wanted a top quality AR for my first, and I only run Mil-Spec ammo in it.

Monarch in the blue or green box? There's a difference.

I shoot blue box when I don't feel like reloading.

At the ammo price these days, I wonder how many are still plinking away with mil ball ammo? Even what used to be the "cheap" ammo is no longer cheap in real dollar term....
