Tight rolls pins

How tight should each roll pin be?

How much force should it take to install the hammer and trigger pins?

I just got my Geissele DMR trigger and the pins feel tight, but they went in by hand with finger force. Is this bad? It's on a Stag lower.

Also, the trigger guard pin for the Magpul Enhanced Guard took quite a bit of pounding to go in. I mean like with a hammer and now I have a dented brass punch. Is this normal? It really frustrated the hell out of me and I sure hope I didn't do any damage

I got it in far enough that it is smooth with the lower, but I don't dare attempting to drive it in the remaining 1/32" to 1/64" inch to center it in the lower. Did I accidentally install it backwards or from the wrong direction?

The bolt catch roll pin was fairly easy.

Thanks!

Roll pins are made to crush so that they stay tight in the hole, its not uncommon for them to be very tight fitting, feel free to center your roll pins.

OK, even though I have already bent and severely dented my 1/8" punch with a hammer? lol!

You need roll pin punches and starters. They are specifically made to seat roll pins. You can get them here:

Good for you!

Roll pin punches aren't special, they're the correct tools for the job. You can use a regular punch, but you have a much bigger chance of screwing up your tools, (as the OP has done), or your lower when it slips off of the pin.

I know they are not 'special', I was just saying that I used what I already had (+ some masking tape).

Roll pins shouldn't be that hard that you ben roll pins. If you're pounding it that hard, good chances are that it is going in crooked. You're lucky you didn't bust off an "ear"

My MP enhanced trigger guard was a very tight fit too. I had to remove some material with a file to get it to fit properly. You may want to consider re-doing yours in such a fahion so you don't over stress the ears of your lower over time.
