If I'm not mistaken, weren't the special forces that were using them forced to quit using them and hence removed from service?

I thought I remember hearing something like that a while back.

I purchased a S&W M&P15A, and love it. But, it ended up turning into a franken-rifle. But in its original configuration, it was a good shooter. I don't think you can go wrong with the M&P15T. Its a good value for what all you get with the rifle. I am not crazy about the handgaurds on the M&P15X model, being they rely on a delta ring to remain secured.

0 complaints for my 1st AR. M&P 15-A. I checked around a little. Got a Bushmaster, a week later a M&P 15-A.

Could swear I already responded to this once but I don't see it anywhere.
Here's another big +1 for the M&P15T. I've thus far put about 4500 rounds through mine, everything from Wolf to Black Hills, and primary M193 and it's never failed to go bang once. Accurate, and well finished. Stag, Troy Ind., etc... all machined, fit, assembled and inspected at Smith and Wesson by hand.
Not gods gift to the world of the AR, but a really nice rifle with a good support structure, and good customer service backing it up.
Here it is brand new.

I purchased the M&P15 back in September, and only put eighty rounds through it so far. But it is the best eighty rounds I have ever shot of any gun I've owned. It's my first AR rifle, but hopefully not my last. Having shot my Romanian AK clone, I turn the target into swiss cheese @ 25 yards, but with my M&P15, I end up with small holes in the center of the target. I know 25 yards isn't impressive for a rifle, but I was very happy with my shot groups, and never once touched the sights. I now see why the Black Rifle is so liked by so many!

Thats what I'm doing. I already have a factory Bushmaster. I also have a stripped lower DPMS. I'm going to build a nice rifle off of that. As long as one uses good quality parts, you will have a good rifle.

Just to clarify, the original post was written in May when I was checking out M&P15s at local shops and gunshows. I like the brand for many reasons and would have bought a 15T (or 15A) if I had found one at the right price. Considering the ensuing panic buying, I probably should have paid full price. But I do not own one, so any observations or reviews I wrote on this thread apply just to my handling them at the shops and I am certainly no authority on this brand of AR (or any other for that matter). I do know S&W make the best revolvers. Also, the rebate stuff I referred to is probably out of date.
If you want this to be a platform for discussing your M&P15's, I think that is just great and please continue. Those are some sweet examples you guys have.

I have 1,200 of the 1,500 I need for my 15T. I hope to be ordering it within the next month. Don't know how long the wait will be though. By BIL was quoted 20 weeks.

You may want to check yours when it comes in to verify that your gas block is pinned in place and not held in with set screws. S&W was using aluminum blocks attached with nothing more than set screws and the differing expansion properties due to the different metals (steel barrel vs. aluminum gas block) combined with the lack of pins was causing gas leaks and shifting gas blocks. I saw at least two that appeared to be having function problems due to this issue.
They are supposed to be using pinned, steel, gas blocks now.
