I saw on the news/news type program that he was convicted (the owner of the rifle and not the guy who was borrowing it)
based on the super secret findings of the BATFE that the judge doesn't even know how they concluded it was full auto. The defense appealed so that's all I know.

Looks like there will be another hearing on May 8th. The guy is apparently a member over at arfcom and has been posting updates under the handle Bladerunner2347. 57 pages in the thread so far. I have linked the last update from him below.
