You will likely need the commercial. I believe the milspec is for Colts...
Not sure about the buffer, someone will chime in.

Are you just starting a build ?
What do you have now ?
If you are starting from scratch you can buy either kit.
Do you need a H buffer? no not really.

If you are starting a build then go with either one. One buffer tube is bigger then the other; no big deal.

I'd suggest you go with the mil-spec kit since you are starting from nothing. The mil-spec receiver extension is stronger, the threads are better. If you decide to go with a different stock later the choices for the mil-spec size stocks are better.

I dont really understand why the make the complete kit in the commercial variety...

Get the milspec one... if you decide you dont like the CTR, then youll have the standard diameter tube to put a Crane or VLTOR on.

Oh, and you can do the H buffer if you want, but its not really needed with a midlength gas system

If you are starting from scratch get the mil-spec one. It is definitely stronger. As far as the H buffer is concerned, you won't know til you put it together and try it out. I found out one of my midlengths works best with a H buffer but the other one works best with a standard carbine buffer.
