A nice and smooth barrel is the aim, but there is more to break in than copper fouling, it is also to allow the right amount heat cycles to properly harden the barrel to get the upmost accuracy.

If you go to any high power matches, 99/100 of the guys used some kind of break in method for their Stainless Steel barrels. If you are building a match long distance gun, you might as well break it in properly as it does not hurt, and you are not going to be putting a lot of rounds through it anyways so you might as well take the time to break it in to get that extra 1/8th MOA accuracy .

It is your gun so you do what you want, but for me, all my Stainless Steel guns will see the 110 round break in method.

I don't believe in break-in for chrome lined barrels. CL barrels are meant to resist heat and go periods of time without cleaning. So if your CL needs break-in then it got problems.

My RRA Predator Pursuit is stainless and I asked the company rep about break in and he said "nope just clean it and shoot it."

Remember we are talking about the inside of the barrel being SS and not the outside.

I'm with Eric, break in for SS but not for chrome lined.

Is there really a break in. When I got my rifle completed, I just ran the boresnake through it. I believe they put some rust inhibitor on it prior to shipment and I wanted to get that off

For brushes, I recommend Isso Nylon brushes. They are expensive at $4 each, but they will last a liftime. I stay away from copper brushes because I don't like the idea of of jamming metal brushes down my bore.

Armalite and Knesek Arms recommend 110 rounds to properly break in a barrel. Took me about 3 hours!

- First 10 rounds: clean barrel after every round
- Next 20 rounds: clean barrel every 2 rounds
- Next 30 rounds: clean barrel every 3 rounds
- Next 50 rounds: clean barrel every 5 rounds

Edit to say: It is 1 wet, and 3-4 dry patches for every cleaning, that is why it took me 3 hours.
