I have one of Spike's uppers already on order. Should be shipping soon.

Spike's Tactical is a good bunch. Here is part of what they say about the .22 upper:

Regarding the Spike's Tactical .22lr bolt. Our bolt is based on the Atchison design with improvements including the following: an electroless nickel finish gives it a much slicker, smoother finish so you do not have to run it as wet which means the bolt stays cleaner longer. We have changed some tolerances, beefed up the firing pin and pre-drilled for a ball-detent.

That's a whole new upper assembly for more than twice the price!

$550 is a complete upper- not just the bolt!

Once they are caught up on backorders they'll be selling bolts only. I'm still waiting for my call once my number is up so I can get some customers theirs.

I am aware of that. $550 for a upper to only be able to shoot .22lr?
This is better than a $185 Ciener kit?

Not for me.

We all have to make our priorities. I have heard way too much negative stuff about the Ciener kit, and the Ciener attitude, to buy his stuff. For me, it is better to have a dedicated upper for .22. I won't have to worry that I am gumming up my 5.56 uppers with dirty lead ammo, so when I shoot the 5.56, I know it is good. I am sure I will make up the price difference with my .22 ammo savings pretty quickly. However, if it is "not for you", that is cool. No such thing as "one size fits all" in the gun world.

Apart from the gunk that accumulates with the Ciener kit, the primary reason for a dedicated upper is that the barrel is sized correctly to the bullet and the twist rate is suited to the 22LR so that it will stabilize the bullet. That gives you accurate shooting. If you are just trying to hit a can or some spinners I guess it doesn't matter. If you were doing some serious shooting it would make a great deal of difference.

But you'e not comparing like products! Once Spike's is selling the stand alone bolt it will probably be comparable to what the Ciener was. A Spike's complete upper was the same price when they were using the Ciener kits for them.
