Not really an AR-15 related post.. but it pertains to AR type stuff...

i've been thinking about getting a .22lr rifle and even thought about getting a conversion kit for my ar-15, but...

then i saw/read about the GSG5 see pictures here and said to myself... "hmmm maybe this might be worth looking into"

so now i'm wondering, does anyone here have any hands on experience with this? if so, your thoughts/opinions?

thanks in advance!

note: when i say AR type stuff, i mean it as "assault rifle". because you know those damn politicians that want this ban to pass would definitely categorize that as an assault rifle.

Well as a fun gun, I say go for it. It looks like fun. As a training tool, I'd pass. If you are interested in learnng to fight with a longgun, a dedicated 22 LR upper (mine is a spikes tactical) make a more useful training tool in my experience. Face it, you're not going to have an MP5 these days, so learning how to run one (and its not hard) is probably not as useful as learning how to run an AR. Just my opinion.

I don't list my guns - I know glocks, FALs, and AKs but I'm not sure my ability to fill a gunsafe with guns make me an expert on anything.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.

i agree, but i'm an enthusiast and not military, leo or competition shooter. so it's really more for fun and stickin it to those empty soda cans when they act up! lol! with that said, i really don't like buying crap, hence the reason why i asked if anyone has had hands on experience. i'd rather hear it from people that post in forums than read a writers review on it. know what i mean?!

it makes it really interesting considering the price of ammo nowadays!

everywhere i look has them as "out of stock" or "taking orders" so i really don't know if they are out to the general public yet. i would think they are b/c a quick search on youtube for gsg5 pulls up some vids of people having fun with it!

GSG-5 is hard to find right now- but they are nice. Mags are a washw ciener mags- both run ~$30. If you want to train with your AR get the conversion. If you want a different platform get the GSG. If you want to train similiar to the AR but save $$ get this:

those 10/22 recievers are cool, but i see very little training benefit. None of the controls (aside from the trigger) are the same as an AR. drills involving mags, involving the chargin handle, even drills involving the usage of the safety are now of no AR-training benefit.
