"Assault weapons ban" alive and well...

right here in good ole' Cook county, IL. I didn't realize it was in force, but now that I'm calling around to price an RRA varmint rifle, reality has cracked me upside the head.

I have got to get out of this county, at the very least.

I did it 21 years ago. I know ownership rules are tough, but what constitutes an Assault weapon up there these days? 10 round mag restriction type stuff or more than that?

Thumbs down

I lived in Chicago/Cook for several years - not a pro-gun area to say the least.

Not exactly sure but I was told no "military" style weapons are allowed in the county... I swear I saw a cop on the news take an AK47 off of some gang members last weekend, but I must be wrong...

There was a girl from there that moved in with a friend of mine a few years ago and she almost had a nervous breakdown when she came with him to a camping trip one weekend and a bunch of us started shooting.

Nothing too major, but we had a few SKS's and an AR or two. She went nuts looking for the cops the whole night. Every time she heard a leaf fall or something, she thought it was the cops sneaking up on us.

Not really a funny story, but true. She was amazed that Swat didn't surround the tents while we were sleeping.

It must have been an oversized Deringer. One of the few weapons I can think of that the Military hasn't used at some point.

New Jersey sucks! If you think it's tough in cook county, try living in Hudson county. It takes me 3 months to get a hand gun permit. And that's for each hand gun. "Don't cry about having to feet, because there's someone with no legs." I don't know the quote but you catch my drift, right?
