Keep in mind you may have gotten some parts on both extreme's of in spec.
As for the grip- make sure everything is tightened down all the way. Yes the CTR's aren't cheap, but they also aren't a miracle platform with a built in molding system to perfectly fit every application. I've had 0 complaints on all that I have sold, but that doesn't mean that all lock up 100%. You are talking about ranges in spec, personal preference, etc. |

My MIAD would not fit properly on my reciever. I had to "wallow" out the hole for the bolt to go through the grip a little so I could fit it properly. Once it was on though, it was great. I like the grip and use it with the largest palm swell.

For the most part, I am very happy with all of magpul products.
MIAD - There is not a better grip out there. I like the adjustments and the texture on it is perfect for gloves or bare hands. I don't really use the compartment, but it is a nice feature to have. CTR - I like CTR stocks but they are not all that if you are a nose to the charging handle type guys. But they are solid and lock tight (at least all mine do). Actually no M4 collapsable buttstock is ideal if you are a nose to the charging handle type guy, that is why the UBR will be the ultimate stock when it comes out. PRS - I don't think there is a better stock out there for a scoped precision weapon. Magpul followers - the best followers out there bar none. they have turned my bad mags into good mags. they are great band aid to a weak spring. Magpul mags - Only bought one to see what the hype was about. So far so good but I don't trust plastic lipped mags, therefore I am not sold on them quite just yet. USGI mags with magpul followers are only going for $10 these days, I see no point in paying the extra $5 for an "inferior" mag. Magpul Followers - |

my take on plastic lipped mags is that i trust them moreso than even AL body mags.
metal deforms...which means that a mag can get dropped on the deck, deform a feedlip (slightly) and end up reloaded and back in the gear bag...one day you may COUNT on that mag, and it will fail you, because one or both of the feed lips got deformed JUST enough to effect reliability. Plastic doesnt deform, it wont ever lose its shape. if you drop one on the deck and the lip breaks, there is little chance you will see a broken feed lip and reload it. chances are you will trash it, which is where it needs to be. that being said, all of my Pmags have been dumped on the deck over and over...nothing more than scratches thusfar. no cracks, breaks or splits. ONLY other drawback i have witnessed for the Pmags is the tight tolerances. they fit tight in tight spec magwells, and out of spec rounds will bind them up. for instance, my buddy had a batch of 223 that he reloaded, and by some sort of screw up on his part, all of the bullets were seated about 1.5mm long in the casing. these would bind up the pmags, but would fit fine in the GI mags.

and one more thing i wanted to add RE: the MIAD. EC indicated that he doesnt use the compartment. Neither did i, until i SBR'd my lower. the compartment is a perfect place to keep a copy of my ATF form 1, that you are apparently required to keep with the NFA item at all times.

Why do you guys think the magpul mags comes with lip covers? Think about it.
Metal has been proven. There are guys who swear by there 20-round metal mags, ones they have owned and used since the Vietnam war era. Also if you do a price comparison of 10/22 30-round mags, the cheapest ones go for $7. The "hot lipped" ones, which are still plastic goes for about $20. The metal lipped ones go for about $30. There is a reason why you want the lipped part to be metal. As for running over the mags with a truck, I can do that with my British Steel mags that I got for $10. |

metal lipped 10/22 mags are a different story. those are usually strong, machined parts, not stamped sheet metal. Not subject to easy deformation. and cheap plastic lipped 10.22 mags are usually just that....cheap and plastic. Not fiber reinforced polymer. I am just stating my opinion based on my personal experience during training both as the student and as the instructor. i have had to strip a malfing GI mag out of my rifle and replace with a fresh one several times before due to nearly-unnoticeable feed lip problems....and i have also witnessed it. I have also had a feedlip problem with an XD mag that got dropped, and then put back into play... There are folks who shoot people for a living both here and abroad that use both GI mags and Pmags...so BOTH are obviously relevant choices. And i tend to forget about the money issue regarding Pmags, since i get mine for 9 bucks and change, or sometimes free..

Metal framed guns are proven too, the majority of us here have (not necessarily exclusively) plastic guns now. I've got some metal AR mags still, no reason to get rid of them; but PMags are the **** |

i am not trying to make this a pmag bashing session. as a company, i give magpul A++ for all their products. I am sure the pmags work fine. only time will tell if they can hold up to the test of time. i just don't see a reason to pay $5 more.
one day we will see steel lipped pmags and those will be the shiser! i never critisize anyone for how they want to spend their money, i only expect them to critizise me for how i spend mine. |
