That sounds like that's what he is refering to.

How do make one from permatex? Never heard of that method. I know PRI Gas Buster makes a CH, but dern they are proud of there stuff.

Homemade gas buster charging handle

I've seen a how to on the internet somewhere, but I can't find the link right now. Maybe someone else will know and be able to post a link because it has pictures and such of each step, but here's a quick rundown.

If you look at the charging handle from the top (while it's in it's regular position in the lower) you'll notice a gap between the reciever and the charging handle. (Kind of like a half moon shape on the charging handle itself).

This is the area that needs somewhat filled with black permatex. Basically, just fill the half moon shape on the charging handle enough so the gap around where the charging handle goes into the reciever is blocked off.

Well oil the back of the reciever around where the charging handle slides in it (The oil is for a release agent).

After 45 minutes or so (when the permatex is dry), gently pull on the charging handle. Any part that is trying to stick to the receiver, use a sharp knife or hobby razor to help pry the permatex off of the receiver.

This works very well to seal off the gap in the receiver around the charging handle and keeps most all of the backpressure in the receiver and out of your eyes.

I don't think it was gas blowing back. Both of us noticed it less if we weren't pressing our cheek onto the stock.

If your stock is adjusted wrong (length of pull and if canted) it will slap you silly!

Stock Fit
A comb that doesn't fit so it makes you scrunch your head to "get down on it" will bite your cheek.
If the pitch, or canter of the butt is wrong for you, the toe of the stock digs into your chest bouncing back slapping your cheek.
If the length of pull is too short, the gun will bounce from recoil and slap your cheek and chest.
The solution can be as simple as an adjustment, or to the toe of a recoil pad or switching stock shims(if applicable).
Proper stock fit reduces recoil.
If your stock fits, it will allow your entire body to absorb the recoil, vs the stock slapping back and creating pain to an isolated area.

Thanks sounds easy. Especialy since I work at a parts store. I just wonder why he used red instead of black. I know the red is high heat, but that part of the rifle don't get that hot.

I noticed this on mine. It might be the same thing your feeling too. On my DPMS there is a mold edge right where my cheek sits. On mine its a circle. It's not sharp, but its not smooth either and sometimes during recoil it will "scratch" my cheek.

I'll try to get a pic up later on.

John A was right. I shot my AR again today and paid more attention to it. It does feel like something was coming back at my face. There's a gun show here this weekend. I might see if I can find one.

Thanks all.
