Holosight sighting
My holosight is driving me nuts!!! Or I'm driving myself nuts!!!! I usually shoot at 50yds,with iron sights. Shot placement is nicely grouped, about 1 inch above bullseye. When I use my holosight, shots are way high, like almost off the target!!! So I have a bunch of questions: One eye or two eyes for shooting with Holo? Where should the recticle be in relation to the front sight?

Both eyes open!
You might not be able to get a perfect co-witness with your irons....irons may be below your hologram by a few cm's. Co-witness will depend on your mount, etc. Lex |

what sight is it?
you should sight the holosight in separately from your iron sights. no need to use iron sights as a reference point or try to sight in off of them. take some time and do it correctly and you'll save some time and some frustration. holosights are designed, mostly, for a both eye open use. but only one eye is actually seeing the sight, while the other is allowing for peripheral vision. the brain adjusts both images and blends them together making the sight appear in normal vision. since only one eye is actually seeing the sight, it is perfectly fine to use it with only one eye open. |

Flat top upper, ARMS 40L(I like using the small peep) front sight is the stock Bushy. I have my irons sighted in pretty good. At 100yds I still get decent grouping. So I should just ignore the front the sight when using the HOLO? And both open, but only use one to look thru??

look through the sight, close your left eye, you should see the sight perfectly, then open your left eye and close your right eye, you should not see the sight at all, then open both eyes and this is how you should use the sight.

I know guys who can't shoot with both eyes open because they are left eye dominant, even though they are right handed.

isnt the bushnell made by eotech? if not its the same darn thing, isnt it?
if it is the same, then good choice on a sight. you couldnt pic a better one. now, assuming its the same thing as an eotech or even is an eotech re-branded, youll notice as you move your head up and down and right and left just slightly, the reticle will follow your action. so, there is no way you can sight the eotech in by using your iron sights. even though the eotech will be around the same hight as your iron sights. the best thing to do is average the distance youll be shooting with you holo. with 1x magnification that your sight has, i would sight it in at 100yrds. return the sight to the stock settings, if you remember how far away from stock you moved the recticle. eotech says their sights, if mounted correctly on your AR, will be close to on target from the factory. go to the range and shoot 3 shots and average their distance from bullseye and make adjustments and repeat the process as needed, i hope this helps. if you find it difficult to use both eyes open then close one eye, i t wont hurt. |
