While the lower was not machined for a auto sear Olympic did use M16 bolt carriers and lower parts other than the auto sear, The ATF has known this for a long time and has ruled in other cases in favor of the owner but for some reason IE probably Dem in the White House this fall and a anti gun head of the ATF they have stepped up enforcement and are not following their own precident on previous cases. Beware folks big brother is watching and he has unlimited funds to prosecute you. At the least this individual will be bankrupt and will never own another gun, Unless other gun owners step up and get their representatives involved this will be common place.

Seems to me like this case has nothing to do with fairness but has everything to do with setting the stage for an upcoming gun-grab. i.e: see how easy it is for these evil weapons to be made even more evil - we must protect the public from themselves - give us your guns.

Nothing is an accident when you come to the government.

This is ridiculous. Surely something will be done about this.

Poormans machinegun is NOT a machinegun. You still have to pull the trigger to make it fire the round. All the rubber band does is make the trigger reset faster so that you can then pull the trigger again. It's is legal. Still a semi-auto.

I saw this on Lou Dobbs last night. He asked where the NRA was and they said they only help if asked to do so.

WHY THE HELL HAS NO ONE ASKED THE NRA FOR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES, This is very wrong and needs to be fought. Not just for him, but all of our future. This can happen to anyone!! I've seen it with a semi auto 22 over 30 years ago.

So are you saying that the guy had the M16 bolt carrier in the gun?

I saw stuff from ATF that appears to state that an M16 bolt carrier is taboo along with any parts from the M16 trigger mechamism. Very bad idea to mix any M16 parts in an AR15.

This whole thing concerns me. My AR15 has never slam fired but it could. There is a lot of conflicting material out there about the topic and it is confusing to say the least.

I don't think my RRA with a Wylde chamber using factory ammo is particularly at risk. But the notion that my AR can inadvertantly become a machine gun and cause me the loss of my freedom and firearms rights for life is very disconcerting.

Just how great is this risk?? Is there anything that ordinary AR owners can or should do to lock down this risk or minimize the risk of slam fires in our AR's? Should we be switching to light firing pins? Checking all our ammo to make sure the primers are seated properly? Arggghhhh this is annoying!!!

Update: I went into the AR15.com forum and read some more about this case from Bladerunner himself (David Olofson... the guy charged). Here is the link AR15.COM :: Forums :: Update on Berlin BATFE Raid
If you read the charging document, the Feds claim that he filed down the bolt, had a third firing mode like Select Fire but unmarked, and had a special firing pin in the gun designed to cause it to slam fire. Apparently the ATF agents tested the gun and it slam fired and emptied a full mag in one or two trigger pulls.

Seems that his "friend" provided a good deal of the evidence against him. That includes David taking orders to make him a gun which is why David had lent him the gun in the first place since his gun wasn't in yet.

It is a long thread and I haven't read all or even most of it. But based on the documents shown initially, there may be some merit to the guy being charged. He may have modified the gun to cause it to run full auto... at least at times. When I get more time I will read more of Bladerunner2347's defense of his actions or non-actions. I should have read it before I posted in the first place. Sorry about that. It is very interesting.
