Took the new-caliber plunge!

My wife informed me of my birthday/anniversary present and after a month of researching and thinking, I finally ordered it today!

18" Ko-tonics 6.8SPC with lightweight quad rail, and Phoenix FH. I'll be mounting my GG&G MAD BUIS and MI gas block front flip sight, and my 4-16x50 scope for deer season.

I'll have to swap my Holosight between my M4gery upper and the 6.8 for a year or so until I can scrounge the $$ for another red dot, but I'm buying this upper for hunting first and foremost. Kansas won't allow the .223 for deer. It worked great for me in Nebraska, but KS doesn't see fit to allow it. What a shame... more EBR stuff for me!

I'm on the fence about which caliber to buy. I know I can just buy a 6.8 barrel and swap out the uppers. But I'd rather buy one caliber and spend the extra money on toy accesseries

if you go over to http://68forums.com/ and do some searching, you'll see that folks are getting 1/2" - 3/4" groups at 100yds from Ko-tonics uppers, and that's a chrome-lined bore.

Here in KS, 300yd shots on deer are common when you're shooting in wheat and corn fields, so accuracy is important to me. That's why I went with Ko-tonics.

If you go 6.5G, you'll have good accuracy. If you go 6.8SPC, you'll have good accuracy. I just don't plan on shooting past 350yds with my rifle, so I saw no need for the added cost of ammo and reloading components for the 6.5G. If I were doing mostly 400yd.+ shooting, I would have picked the Grendel.

If you choose the Grendel, check out 6.5 Grendel Fan Site :: For the 6.5 Grendel Aficionado for the info you need. If you choose the 6.8, make sure you have the SPC II chamber and at least a 1:11" twist barrel so you can run the hotter loads.

I get 3/4" groups from my 20" shaw barrel. I purchased the barrel & bolt from Model1. I load 115gr. Sierra matchkings with 27.5gr. Benchmark. It shoots very well even out to 500m.
