Have you thought about your barrel break-in procedure?

Um.. no. Not at all. I'm still thinking about the first part (lower). I'm sure I'll seek the advice of the collective here before doing anything like a break-in.

But between some (late) Christmas present money, and the few hours of overtime I got doing a beach survey last week, I have enough to get the lower.... I hope to be ordering it soon.

I don't have an easy answer. The gap edge on my CMMG lower was kinda sharp. Not enough to cut me but enough to hurt if I try to hold the entire rifle up with just my right hand on the pistol grip.

Stock CMMG

MIAD Full Kit using the winter trigger guard

I bought my MIAD Full kit used but it was still around $40 shipped. I like it though. I'd probably just skip the gapper for now. If yours comes out sharp, then get this $20 fix: Spikes Tactical If not, don't worry about it. Many AR owners leave that gap alone.

Wow. Thanks for the tips and photos. Perhaps I'll not worry about the gapper then, either.

I did read somewhere where people don't use the accu-wedge because their AR-15's are actually MORE accurate being a little looser. Any thoughts on that?

I can't see how it would make a difference. You line up the sights that are fixed on the upper. How tight or loose the lower is shouldn't matter for range shooting.

Like the gapper, go without it first. If you find your upper and lower are looser than you can tolerate, go buy the wedge. If not, leave it alone and save a few bucks. No need to fix a problem that might not even exist.

Good points. Thanks.

So, you think their "standard" lower will suit my needs as part of the 18" SPR AR-15 for home defense and target shooting? Is it too much?

Omfg!!!

I'm beginning to realize that I'm not supposed to have an AR-15.

Instead of getting my AR-15 lower this week, I had to spend my AR-15 funds on my f--king POS minivan instead. I needed 2 new front tires (mounted and balanced), a tie rod, and a wheel alignment.

So much for my Xmas & birthday money going to my new toy.

F--king goddammm van! UGH!!!

Yeah, that's true, and a good way of looking at things...

But it took me 2.5 years to get to the point of being able to get the lower.

i can't pretend to understand your financial situation but but the lower should be able to be found for less than $100 cut back on a few dinner and lunch outings. and you should have that in no time.

instead of focusing on purchasing all the parts that are needed to complete the lower just buy one part at a time soon you will have everything that you need to complete the build.

its a slow process but in the long run you will probably be able to afford some better parts as you will not be shelling out the cash all at one time.

buy used and save some money there are always deals to be hand on gun boards like Ar15.com i do not post on there but i will shop on there.
