I know this is actually a necro thread..but now that I have the EOTech 3x mag and can compare it directly to the LaRue Po'Boy, I have to say that the only significant differences between the two are these:
1. Slightly larger FOV due to a larger aperture.
2. Slightly better eye relief (maybe as much as 1in, but the aperture is the reason I can see for that)
3. The actual stated magnification of the EOT 3x is 3.35x .. the Hensoldt is 2.5x

Realistically, the EOTech nor the AP magnifiers I've mucked around with are not worth the money. As to the Clones, I still think that's to be seen. Mcivian might be able to beat it up enough to at least find out if it's good enough for the weekend plinker. But I wouldn't hesitate to take either the EOT mag or the Hensoldt into a situation where it was a life or death tool. I've been able to hold very tight groups at 220m using an EOTech and the Hensoldt in combination. Better than the Hensoldt and the AP ML3 I had setup.

Speaking of not worth the money, let's not forget the EO 4x is actually rated 3.75x and costs about $370 more than the 3x version for just a 0.50x more magnification (tho it has much better glass!) and a 'square' sight picture! jeeez... that's a ripoff!!

You're absolutely right though, any of the better-made (read: sturdy) clone mag's would certainly do just as well provided they have a nice, clear lens.

Mine arrived today and the glass is pretty good and clear edge to edge.

I tried the twist mount and it was a little under an 1/8 too low for my setup. I had a second matching height burris 30 mm ring and it mounts perfect. I got it mounted and went to the range about 30 minutes before dark.

I shot a quick group at 25 yards and was rewarded with a ragged one hole group. I shot a total of two mags and it did very well in very low light out to 200 yards. I could not tell if I was getting hits at 250 or not--I could not hear them or I missed.

The heads on the steel targets are 6 x 6 and these were no problem at 100 yards.

I was also pleased that it had sat inside all day and no signs of foggy even though it was below freezing and snowing when I was shooting.

I've played with it some more tonight and have found that it seems to work better the closer it is to the optic. I have them set to wear it is touching the plastic of the scope cover and it is for all purposes one unit when mounted. It just seems a little crisper this way--but I am having trouble explaining it.

Eye relief is pretty tight and I don't think I would try it on a .308 as it will probably result in scope eye.

No aimpoint markings on it anywhere.

It does bring out the blue tint on My SPOT scope as I had never noticed it before but do with the magnifier. I am not sure if the mag is a full 3x but it looks to be real close.

Overall, right now, it seems well worth the $80 I spent so far. It will get used a lot and I'll see how it holds up.

I ran across this a while back and never did try it as I ended up putting my Bushnell Holosight on a 22 pistol.
But, if it's not a hard core tactical rifle, you might consider a cheap scope and adaptor system. I mean it's just a coouple of lenses. Tear a $40 scope apart and take the reticle out, then mount it up. Marketing ploys seem to convince a lot of people to spend way to much money for a simple magnifier.

Where's the trigger at?

So with the AP magnifier clone a riser (like the LT110) will be needed to accommodate a BUIS, and get things lined up correctly with an Eotech?

If so; the Po Boy is sounding better for Eotech magnification.

Would I need a riser for the EO to use the Hensholdt?

Here is a thread about the Veriforce Tactical EO 4x clone

I know I read that, but I was hoping for a non-biased opinion.

As you probably know there are a lot of gear snobs there. If it's not the 'top of the line' super expensive brand than it must be **** therefore it has no use except to put on your grandson's water gun.

I can't remember the name, but there was a low power long eye relief optic that were take offs from grenade launchers. They were reasonably priced and apparently held up to the abuse well.

Sold out, but they were a lot cheaper before they were sold out.
