Have you ever shot and cleaned the M-249 SAW? If you have, you've probably noticed the lack of carbon fouling by the bolt. All the carbon is right near the end of the gas piston and the cleaning of this fouling is pretty basic. I'm sure there are differences between the HK-416 and the SAWs gas piston system, but the concept is very similar.

Okay. I just have to say, stop with the CS bashing. It was bad 3-4 years ago. It's not anymore.
We have no idea what the price is going to be. Probably somewhere between $1300-$1700 if I had to guess. Is it worth it? Hell if I know, I don't know anything about the weapon first hand.
What I'm excited about, is that this kind of opens the door for perhaps a US production of a G36 and UMP...
The "problem" that the piston driven AR upper solves is that the rifle no longer "sh!ts where it eats".

Oh, do you mean when the Assault Weapons Ban and Importation of non-Sporting Firearms Ban started?

That is an option but then you would be getting a battle proven system.

There's a surprising amount of money to be made on the civilian market, so I was surprised when they weren't selling to civilians.
Those 417s look sweet! I want one.

I've got a Bushy Gas piston upper, i love it. fired 25 rounds, consecutive, and the upper receiver was barely warm, carbon fouling mainly on the piston, and handguards. no biggie at all.
i tried at the range with my M16... i needed a witto band-aid...

I really like the way the Magpul is looking. Very nice. Been saving up for a while now.
