I am looking for some suggestions on models and brands for first time owners. I will want something that I can put I sight on, so I can pick off Groundhogs if desired.

I thank you in advance for your help and suggestions. Heck it will probably end up being another toy to look at.
Yeah man, like they said, build it! At least the lower, that is. I just built mine last night, which was the first time I've ever done anything like that, and it was pretty simple. I saved a lot of money by getting a stripped lower and a rifle kit. If you build it...you will come. (Get your head outta the gutter, sickos! Hehe)

Thank you guys very much for the info. I will be doing lots of reading. Is there any manufactures that you would stay away from? I want to narrow down my choices some.

I am looking to shoot around 150 yards max, but when I build the AR I will want it to be something nice to look at as well.

Get a Colt 6520 Gov't Carbine. $1150 or so. They hold their value better than any other AR and will do everything you want in a light handy package. Add a Tritium front sight and clean up the trigger if you need to. Trijicon Compact ACOG's go perfectly on the carry handle, with no rings or special mounts to add on and you can still use your iron sights. All you really need are a few 20 round mags, a decent light and a good sling and it's an excellent defensive carbine.

LMT are considered some of the best and is what envogue these days. They are milspec rilfes and have all the cool features of a Colt such as 1/7 twist barrel, chrome line bore and chambering, 5.56 NATO chambering, etc. You can buy the LMT basically complete for $980.. and I would put this rifle against any rifle.

$330 for LMT Defender Lower
$485 for LMT 16 upper
$130 for LMT Bolt Carrier Group

Put in the bolt, attach upper to lower via pins and you have a complete kickass rifle that is considered among the best.
