Who's running a 9mm?

Thinking about going 9mm with my next build. Not sure of the best way to go. You have the RRA/Colt upper, as well as the Oly upper. I like that the Oly setup uses a standard lower. No special hammer etc. Also the RRA setup can be a bit finicky at first with the uzi mags. Or..may go the RRA route, use a drop in block, and pop in a 32 round pro-mag.

This is pretty sweet.

Nikon,

From what I've been reading, a pistol caliber carbine is an answer to a question no-one asked.

Now, I think having a weapon like the Beretta 92FS and CX-4 might be useful since it can share ammo and magazines but most agencies go with the carbine as a primary and the sidearm as a back up.

Now, if it's for economical range plinking and fun, hey have at it. I didn't get a clear idea of what you intend to do with the 9mm AR build.

Cheers,

I'm running the RRA 9mm. It's way too much fun. When I snagged it the guy gave me a couple of the pro-mags and a couple of the colt mags. Well I sold the colt mags and bought 4 more pro-mags to replace them. No issues with the pro-mags at all.

Do note that there is a spring that covers the firing pin inside the BCG.. don't lose that Lost mine in the first time I cleaned it and didn't even notice it until it went to the range the next time Well it's only $2 to replace from RRA so no big deal

They don't use the gas system so replacing the hand guards and FSP with a mid or rifle length rail is cheaper because you don't need the gas block

Yeah, I just wanted something to plink with that's cheaper to shoot. I have a .223 AR that I built and I love it. I would however love a 9mm AR so I can practice with the AR format more often.

Nikon,

Excellent! Any chance to practice drills is a good investment in time/resources.
Can't tell you how ofter I've seen folks who don't even know how to properly perform a function check or malfunction clearance on their own weapon.

For range plinking and drills have you thought about the Ceiner .22 LR option?
Ciener AR15 -> 22LR Review
Here's my write up and I love it! Scroll down for the groupings on the Fiocchi hypervelocity 40gr FMJ... fun for drills, cheaper than dirt.

If I make it out to Cleveland, I'll have to call you up to go to the range.

Cheers,

I'm in the middle of a 9mm SBR build. Short 5" barrel. 22" OAL. Started building the lower. Have the paperwork for the Tax Stamp and everything ready to go.

Why 9mm? Cheap to shoot!

I built up one using the Oly upper and a Hahn block to use sten mags which I got for $4 each. Runs great. A 9mm AR is a very fun range toy, not much good for anything else though, same as my Oly OA-93 AR pistol. I wont be getting rid of either in the foreseeable future.
