Olympic forgeries

If you are buying Olympic AR's, make sure your dealer is reputable.

Taken straight from teh front page of Oly's site. www.olyarms.com

---------------------

Forgeries! It has come to our attention that someone out there is making forgeries of Olympic Arms products. This person or company is making very low quality products and trying to sell them using our good name. Rest assured that we are investigating the situation and working with the authorities.

Olympic Arms came into possession of an AR-15 with a lower receiver that appeared to be manufactured by us. Our trained eyes quickly realized it was a fake. The receiver was cast aluminum though we have been using forged receivers exclusively for many years now. The fit, finish and casting details are different from the tooling that we used many years ago. The serial number on the lower receiver was not like our system of numbering. The markings on the lower receiver were done by pantograph and were very poor quality. Our lower receiver markings are machined into the surface with great precision. Other parts on the AR-15 as a whole appeared similar to Olympic Arms' but lacked the quality and detail of our machining processes and tooling.

From my knowledge, there has been only 1 fake lower found, though there may be others floating around. And to beat that, it was sent in for warranty work/repair. It was on one of the old stop sign (SGW) marked recievers.

Here is more info on the subject and pics for anyone considering purchasing a SGW stop sign lower and does not affect the Forged Lion marked lowers. This post details what to look for in spotting a fake one.

Couldn't prove it by me, but I guess it just depends on who you talk to.

I bought an Ultramatch through a dealer friend about 9 years ago. I ordered a set trigger on the gun, and an HK PSG style grip.

When the gun arrived it did not have the grip I had ordered. Ok no big deal I thought I can add it later. Simple mistake. Then I noticed the free floated handguard was not tightened and would spin freely. I noticed once I tighted it down the bi pod stud was 25 degrees off. Then I took it to the range. It buldged all the factory ammo I tried in it. When i say buldged I mean the case buldged towards the rear. I was wondering if Oly even inspected my gun before it left their factory. I sent it back to them for repair. They said the barrel's chamber was cut wrong and that they would have it back to me in a few months. I thought fine I can live with that.

Well 3 months came and went they said the upper was going to be shipped anyday. More time went on I called them they said it was in the mail. Called them again after more time had passed they said i would have to wait until that particular barrel batch was made in their shop. They said they would put a lesser quality barrel on but would not give me the difference in cost in cash or a store credit. I said BS. Anyway after waiting 18 months and theatening to get the attorney generals office involved I got my upper back with a new barrel.

Then after a few more months the set trigger I ordered on the rifle from oly started doubling. I called them back they said they would not fix it and that I needed to send it to one of their subcontractors that put the trigger in.

I am sorry but Oly sucks. Also I know a lot of other people who have had problems with Oly. It has one of the worst reputations of any AR brand. Stay away and don't waste your money on them.

Not a fan of the OLY's either. Seen to many that just were sloppy. OLY is kinda like high point in my book. High Points make great guns to take with you on the boat or if you are out riding quads in the middle of the desert. If something happens to it you are not out a whole lot of cash. I would buy an OLY on 2 fronts. One being their 10mm AR, Not sure why...But I like me a 10mm. I would take any other OLY if the price was super low, I would throw it behind the seat of the truck, and let it ride there...

I've had 2 Oly's and a Bushmaster. My bushmaster was the biggest piece of **** on the face of the earth. Bought new, after 4 times back to the mfg for repairs, I got my dealer to take it back. I know lots of folks who had problems w/ Bushmaster, and a few that have had problems w/ DPMS. So, are they **** too?

Actually I hate DPMS as well. I have been an armorer for 5 years now and all the departments I have worked for issue DPMS AR's and I can tell you its a battle to keep DPMS guns running right. Bushmaster is known for breaking bolts and other issues. If you want a quality AR you have to pay for it get a Colt, LMT or a BCCM rifle. Don't waste time with tier 2 crap.
