AR Question

went and shot my DPMS for the first time today got it sighed in and was shooing half inch groups from 25 yards using the iron sights and hitting center mass couldnt be more happy with its accuracy, my question is this

upon shooting the final round shouldn't my bolt lock back. shot around 75 rounds 5 rounds at at time (sorry was trying to prolong my enjoyment) and not one single time did the bolt lock open for reloading. however as soon as i pulled back on the charging handle it would lock in place. what could be the problem or is this normal.

its not really a big deal to have to lock the bolt manually but id prefer it to function as it was designed,

thanks in advance for your comments.

Your bolt should lock back after firing the last round. Here's a few questions that might help isolate the problem.

What type of magazines are you using?

Did the problem occur on the same magazine? Or did you try different magazines with the same results?

try different ammo and new mags. if the gun is new and the buffer spring is ultra strong then it might be short strokeing the bolt. enough to load but not enough to get past the bolt catch.

I feel ya. The only range I'm able to shoot at 500 yards on around my area is the Marine Corps Rifle Range. The other range I shoot USPSA at has I think a 300 yard rifle range.
