Good tactical light?
Anybody got any ideas?
I was thinking maybe something that will fit my XD Service and AR-15 in case I want to switch them.

I have the Insight M6 Tactical Laser Illuminator mounted on my XD45. It works well for me.

I've been shopping as well - think I'll probably end up with the TLR-1. It's Streamlight's updated version of the M3, is a little brighter (on paper at least) and is an LED which is reportedly a bit more durable and longer-lasting. A coworker has one on her Glock 19 and she likes it.

for the AR i'm gonna say pentagonlights all the way, i've got one on each of my AR's and love them, i've got the X3 (130lumes) on my 5.56 rifle and a X2ha (70lumes i think) on my 9mm AR, they're both awesome lights, double o-ring sealed and a isolated bezel right out of the box so no need to worry about the recoil busting your bulbs
i've been looking at the TLR-1's for my XD also... looks like a good light for $100, but for my rifle i'd rather have the standard light with a tailcap switch (just me)

Well the TRL-1 is an excellent light and there realistically isn't any reason (Technically speaking) that if you have 1913 railes that you can't go between the two. I would suggest that you use a tape switch for the AR though.
Another alternative is the modified SureFire G2 from Calvin over at Brightflashlights.com (crappy page, but give him a call) he puts together the shock isolated bezel and tape switch tailcap and I think the whole shebang was like $80. Works, works well for me at least. Not to mention he has the best prices on SureFire I've found anywhere in the country, not to mention the best customer service I've had from anywhere in more than 15 years of shopping for this gear. So has anyone else had this experience with their pistol lights yet? While doing some light use drills, I was depressing the momentary on lever on my XD45 mounted TRL-1 (mind you this would be an issue for me with any lever operated pistol light) and firing double taps, and even through the light gloves I had on, I had the lever dig between the finger nail and meat of my thumb. Stings a bit So I'm thinking about going with a pressure pad for my pistol, but this is the first time this has happened and I've done this drill a dozen times. I did change my grip to have my thumbs "Flying" rather than running along the lower frame, thus changing the angle at which my thumb his hitting the lever. Just curious...

I'll second the Pentagon, I have the X3HA
You'll want more lumens on a rifle than the handgun types put out

IMO a tape switch is just another thing to break, i had one for awhile and it was nice but meh, not that great, having that dumb cord hanging off your gun (i had the shortest one) just to get tangled in your gear/woods/ect, this is my current setup with the
here's my 9mm AR with the X2ha ![]() and here's my other AR with the X3
