Im thinking of getting a new upper for my DPMS AR15. It will be M4 style more than likely. Do i need to worry about headspacing or do i just slap it on and start shooting?

no worries if you're getting a complete upper.. and honestly, just snag a go-nogo gauge for a few bucks and use it if you're worried.

So in the upper is where the headspacing is adjusted then? Im not that worried, ive shot plenty of ar15 and m16s but ive never replaced a complete upper. Just wanted to be on the safe side. Thanks.

Most complete uppers from a quality manufacturer are test fired and head spaced from the factory.

A complete upper (including bolt assembly) from DPMS will be properly tested at the factory, including a test fire. You won't have anything to worry about.

Specifically, the AR is headspaced at the barrel, it is permanent, and cannot be adjusted. In general, unless someone screws up real bad, a new bolt and a new barrel will automatically be headspaced.

Cool sounds good, thanks for the info guys. What about trigger? My trigger sucks something awful. I just want a plane jane trigger with about 4 pounds of pull, can any one recommend a specific trigger from some where?

I was pretty sure that was the case, and the only folks I see with the gauge are guys who are constantly tweaking their uber benchrest long range shooters.

If you're the DIY type, you can always just get a JP spring kit and smooth out the contact points on the trigger group.
