Gunshop won't transfer new lowers

So I'm wanting to order a few more stripped lowers from Essential Arms. I called my local gun shop that I've used twice here in Terre Haute to see what they would charge me for transferring multiple lowers. He told me that they do not transfer in New lowers. He went on with something about only being able to make a profit off of old lowers that are transferred. Does this make any sense to anyone? I've used them to transfer 2 of my pistols. Although I eventually got both pistols, I can't say that both transfers went flawlessly. I think I'm just going to drop them completely for future business. Has anyone heard of this and could explain it better than he could? Now it looks like I might have to drive 45 minutes to the next nearest FFL. The money I'll be spending in gas just to get there will likely match my FFL fees.

yea, you would think so.....

That's why I think I'm going to drop them. They have seemed to be a little sketchy at times and I'm not sure they've always been honest with me.

Anyone else that might be able to shine a light? Anyone know a good, honest FFL in the Terre Haute area?

Sounds like he's buying wholesale and selling to you retail and his margin is not sufficient to justify the transfer.

Most dealers will transfer a gun from another FFL for about $25. You order the gun or part from a supplier and it's delivered to the FFL who transfers the item to you -- for $25. That's his fee. That's what he gets paid for expediting the transfer. The charge for the NICS is over and above the transfer fee.

I can't believe there's only one FFL in your town. Have you looked in your phone book for "gunsmiths" ??? They're FFL and typically transfer parts from other FFL's.

Your other option is to do the transfers online and drive to the FFL when the stuff arrives and you need to pick it up/pay. FFL can do a NICS for you from email data you supply. You can sign the Form 4473 and provide ID when you pick up the parts.

I don't know how they can be. It is just a little hole in the wall place with literally less then 10 guns in the shop. I have no idea how they have stayed in business all these years.

My next option is Plainfield Shooting Supply in Plainfield or Popguns in Indy. Both are at least 45 minutes from here.

He's not the one selling. I just need him to transfer in. Isn't that like $25 of pure profit?

I think I have found another FFL.

FAVRE'S GUN SHOP
520 N. 42nd St.
Terre Haute, In. 47803
812-235-0198

I looked it up on Google Maps. I think I've driven by it before. If it is the place I'm thinking of, then he might run this out of his garage or his house. If this is the case, does anyone have any opinions on this? I actually found him from www.ar15sales.com from their registered FFL list. I don't know how old the list is though. I haven't had the chance to call them yet. I'll try to do so today if it isn't too late.

alot of the private stores here in town absolutely refuse to do transfers.

I know two of them that refuse to do them outright. They say that if you want something they don't have in the store, they'll have to order it for you, and you'll pay THEIR price for it.

I say ta hell with 'em!
