Done some research, but still have a couple questions.
First of all, thanks so much for you guys help. I've done some research and looked around, but have some questions you can probably help me with. I'm looking at a RRA (can try to change my mind but pretty sure) and will be purchasing a completed rifle.
Definitely purchasing an A4 w/ tactical CAR stock. So on with the questions. 1) I understand the difference in the chrome moly and chrome lined (ie moly is more accurate but less durable, lined is more durable but may effect accuracy). Seems many say the moly is fine for most people unless you're shooting tens of thousands of rounds a year. That's not me so think the moly will be fine. Am I wrong here? Is it worth the extra money? Also, 1:9 is the popular one with my budies. 2) With regard to handguards, I like the look of the "CAR" handguards on the Entry Tactical and CAR models over the mid-length or definitely full-length is there a benefit or just looks? I think I just dont understand what the difference is in these models. I put some pictures below. Entry Tactical Tactical CAR A4 Elite CAR A4 CAR A4 Mid-length A4 3) The entry tactical has an R-4 barrel profile with the notch in the barrel for other applications? Any practical purpose for this (guy plinking outside)? 4) If I want to attach anything to this is the quadrail the only way? Is there no such thing as the rails like I have on my XD which would only run along the bottom? I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU GUYS HELP! THANKS SO MUCH! |

1. Unless you are going to shoot thousands of rounds or shoot corrosive ammo, chrome moly barrels are just fine. I have both, and other than price, I don't notice any difference. 1/9 twist is my choice. I think the 1/7 is too fast, and promotes faster bbl. wear, but that is my opinion.
2. The mid-length, or "middys", have the front sight and gas port a little more farther forward than the carbine length. There are many debates as to whether this is better or not, but the carbines have been working fine for decades. The sight radius is shorter on the carbines, a little longer on the middys, and of course, longest on the 20 inchers. My opinion is that unless you are shooting matches with it, get the one you like. 3. The R4 is RRA's designation for an M4 type profile. They are cut to take a military M203 grenade launcher. Since those toys are forbidden to most of us civvies, they still have some advantages...lighter weight than a full profile bbl., stiffer than a lightweight bbl, and they look cool! I prefer the M4 style bbl over all others. 4. There are different style/size rails that you can attach to your regular handguards. Some simply bolt on through the holes in the handguards. I'm not sure, but J&T Dist. might have some. They have a website, and pretty reasonable prices. GHILLIE |

I just ordered a RRA CAR-A4 today. I got the chrome-lined barrel. Get it from Pete at ar15sales.com. You can get the chrome lined there for the same price as the chrome moly from other dealers. Can't go wrong there.
The 1:9 twist is better, from what I read, for lighter bullets. If you are just using it mainly for fun, then this will probably work for you. One last thing...are you an aggie? If so, I am really sorry. My Red Raiders won't stick it to your guys too bad.

Thanks for the help that clears up a lot.
You have to buy the flip up sites on these I guess? Last edited by aggiedave05 : 09-26-2007 at 05:36 PM. |
