I've got a buddy that just picked up his first AR. I love the design and look of the PMag, he's a HK Fanboi.

Advantages and disadvantages of each?

um....$14 vs $45. go with the P-Mag. The HK's are great, I'm just not sure the price tag is justified.

3 Pmags for the price of one H&K. There is no finish to wear off on the Pmags, and they cannot rust. The H&K mags are nice, but I don't own any. I stick with the Pmags and CProducts stainless steel mags.

Personally, I don't see any advantage to the HK mags. However, I do see many with the pmag.

One of the main advantages of them is the way the interior of the mag is molded. It has a ridge going up the front center of the mag to keep the bullets stacked. This can be a big bonus if the spring were to ever get weak. Plus the followers are better too.

My vote for Pmag, not because of the price, but it's a better mag altogether.

Oh dear, there's a story here!

The PMag production issues seem to have settled and MagPul has taken serious steps to make everything right for those that have had issues with the Mag Bodies. In theory the 7/07 date coded bodies are good to go.

And Charlie, if you really think that the USGI mags are better than the PMag, I tell ya what.. Take one of each, run them over with your truck, grind them into the asphalt with a truck tire and if the USGI mag is in even the same functional shape as the PMag.. I'll send you 10 lightly used USGI mags and cover the cost of the two you destroy.

I've got my issues with the way MagPul does business some times, but they make a superior product. They ain't your daddies poly mags. So yeah.. PMAG over HK.. or at least go with the C-Products Stainless mags, you can still get two of those for the over priced HK.

Eh, you might be right. But even if the PMAGs are better, I just can't stand the sight of that abomination hanging out the bottom of my rifle

I have 2 HK mags, a butt load of aluminum USGI mags with 2nd Gen MagPul followers, 8 steel USGI type mags with 1st Gen MagPul followers and Ranger plates and assorted M16 type foreign mags.

There were no PMags when I bought the HK mags.

The Anti Tilt on the MagPul follower is 100%. 1st Gen fit fewer mags than the 2nd Gen. Push down on the follower and it goes down flat. No tilt. Do I trust them? yes, 100% - Main problem... Aluminum mags were originally ment to be dropped and left. Aluminum mags I have take a decent amount of abuse and dent easily.

HK Mag mags are the Ferrari of the M16 type mags. They look great. They preform great. Silky smooth. When you push down on the follower, it truly feels like it's on ball bearings. I'm guessing it's the coating of the steel follower and on the mag that makes it that smooth as well as the CS Spring. These are truly my home defense mags. Steel mags, won't get feed lip creep.

PMags are interesting to me. They use the same type anti tilt follower that MagPul is famous for. They are at the same price point as a aluminum USGI mag with a MagPul enhanced follower added in. They should be resistant to dents. Feed Lip creep is still a question to me. Unlike Glock mags, these are not steel lined. (now that I think about it, neither are my HK USP mags.)

Food for thought.

www.44mag.com has the CP mags in SS with CS springs and MagPul Followers for about $18. Aluminum with MagPul followers for about $11. And PMags for about $15. HK maritime mags can be had for around $46. I have purchase mags from www.44mag.com before and have been happy with the service. (No, I do not own, work for, or have any kind of relationship with anyone at 44mag.com)
