Advise on purchase
I am currently reading here and other places about building an AR 15.
I currently have picked the RRA kit http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-de...TOKEN=64801475 with a CMMG Lower Receiver http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/...780127&cat=57& . Would this combination fit together?

I have found my answers. It seems that you can Frankenstein just fine to some degree.
I guess it sounds like some frown upon it, but i think it is cool that you can part together a weapon of great power and accuracy.

You'll be fine as you've found.
Nothing wrong with building the weapon the way you want it. Remember that the truth is you get what you pay for.

BadShot,
Thanks for the reply. I don't expect a cadillac when the hood says pontiac.

good point. i thought i had read that the chrome lined were not as accurate. because the plating could not be as even as steel..
of course this is why i am asking for advice.

Chrome lined gets your extended life on the barrel, Chrome Moly gets you a bit better performance.. if you can tell the difference at sub 100m ranges, you need to practice more. The diff doesn't start to show until you start going beyong several hundred meters.

The real big difference between chrome lined and chrome moly steel, is that when you're shooting under high heat, less than desireable ammo, etc., your chance of successful extraction is much greater if it's chrome-lined. Chrome is slicker than steel. And if you ever forget to clean your chamber after shooting, (I know people who have NEVER cleaned their chamber/didn't know you had to clean it) you run the risk of a chromemoly steel chamber being fouled when it's time to extract a round and you have an instant muzzle loader.
If you want a 3-gun competition or self-defense weapon, I'd get chrome-lined. |

Can someone put into context what the life expectancy/rounds one could expect from Chrome Lined vs Non-Chrome Lined? Assume regular cleaning and decent ammo. From what I read so far, it appears that the difference in accuracy and cost is negligible.

120mm,
thanks for the post. I probably want a target/take a trip to hunt Prarie Dogs/coyote/hog/self-defense gun.
does that help? it is only 40 dollars more for the chrome barrell. I have taken my first step. i purchased the Lower Reciever Stripped yesterday. So I am on my way to my AR. I guess I need to purchase some punches, and a wrench. Anything else I need to purchase for putting it together?
