When you eject a round on an AR, the extractor and ejector are both on the bolt face. The ejector puts pressure on the round, so as it comes out of the chamber, the bullet will scrape on the side of the locking lugs, putting a scratch on it. Normally you fire the round, so there is no problem with a scratch. Don't worry arbout, and don't go screwing up your AR by polishing the chamber.

You'd really have to polish pretty aggressively to "screw up" your gun.

But lowest denominator and all, I wouldn't put it past some people. Heck, I heard of people using an electric drill to clean their barrels

I'm going to work on the rifle this Saturday when I go shooting, I don't wanna mess with it in the house too much just in case. Meanwhile tonight and tomorrow I'm going to clean the living crap out of the rifle and get her oiled up and ready to go. When I get to the place where I shoot I'll put a round through it so I can at least cycle it with the muzzle pointed safely downrange.

We'll see how it goes.

I've never seen an AR that didn't leave the dimple on the primers and that did not scratch the bullet upon removal. If you think about it the gun was designed to shuck an empty case not a loaded round. There is probably a way to unchamber a live round without any scratching or other damage but who cares? My AR is no Weatherby, it's a civilian version of a military arm. Don't look at your fired brass! All dented and scratched up and such! Happy shooting!

hah...my buddy put a nice 7.62 hole in the tail gate of his minivan due to this exact principle. He was firing an SKS though. VERY exciting...kinda made us all want to quit. Luckily he was practicing safe firearms handling and pointing the rifle muzzle up. Only injury was another buddy's pride as he whined and griped about being hit with the bouncing brass. I'm sure at first he must have thought he was shot or something but damn man...grow a pair.
