Here are my two K.I.S.S. rifles.

The top one was built on a Superior Arms stripped lower with a Bushy chrome lined upper. The bottom one was built on a DPMS stripped lower with a J&T chrome lined upper.
They share the following traits:
16" M4 profile bbl.
H buffer
McFarland gas rings
Wolff extractor springs & black insert
6 pos. stock
RRA lpk

The top one has M4 profile handguards, and the lower one has standard lined CAR handguards....kept pretty simple. I will probably paint the lower one, and maybe get a Hakko 4X scope to pop the occasional coyote or fox. I will order an Israeli IDF sling for each one, and maybe a Phantom FS, but they will stay pretty basic.

I can't think of how many configurations I have had in the last 18 years, from a Colt SP1 to a Bushy DCM, and just about everything in between. I usually had to try the latest and greatest thing. I had a trick Bushy M4gery tacticooled out that got sold during a messy divorce. In the quest to replace it after the storm, I started realizing how much I really liked the basic rifles. Since I am not boarding ships late at night or guarding a nuclear powerplant, I think the K.I.S.S. concept works well for me.

Anyone else happy with their simple rifle(s)?

Both lowers are great. Some folks on Arfcom have complained about Superior lowers being a little rough sometimes, and some have even posted some pics to back that up, but all of the Superior lowers I have seen in person have been great. The only difference I can see is that the Bushy upper fits tigher on the Superior lower, and the J&T upper fits tighter on the DPMS. If you swap them around, they are looser on the opposite lowers, but not sloppy by any means.

The DPMS is a tad smoother and blacker than the Superior, but the Superior matches the Bushy upper perfectly.

Either are a good buy in my opinion. I have put together one other rifle on a Superior lower for my best friend, and have also used DPMS for 3 or 4 other builds and have not had a problem with any of them.

The Superior has a set screw to take up some of the slack in the trigger if you wish to use it. I couldn't tell a lot of difference, so I don't use it. It actually cams up the rear of the trigger/sear assembly a tad to reduce some of the creep.

ElJimmy...with a Sako rifle in your toy box, you may be disappointed in the accuracy of the AR...not that it is a slouch by any means, but it is no Sako.

However, the fun factor is extremely high.

I have 2 KISS carbines also. One is an IDF clone, and the other is a clone of the COLT 653

I can reccommend the IDF sling...it is a winner. These are both Superiour Arms lowers also.
The IDF is a Bushy 14.5" M4 barrel with perm Phantom FH and the 653 is a 16" lightweight M1S barrel.

Sweet rifles! Are the forearm bands for any other purpose than to get a better grip? I think I am going to order one IDF sling in black, and the other OD. They have the forearm bands listed in the same colors as well.

I have one band on the forearm and one on the stock where your cheek goes....they are to "protect" you from the heat of a hot rifle in the desert sun

I bought a box full of the A1 grips last year and have sold all but the 2 on these.

Hey Ghillie, I've come to the same conclusion. I don't have as many years experience with the AR and it didn't take me long to realize that the simple approach is nearly as functional as the all out tacticool versions. I know several guys with their hot rod scopes that are simply blown out of the water when I shoot my "stock" open sight 16"er and can almost out shoot them. If you know how to shoot you're not outta the game just because you don't have the latest and greatest gizmos on your rifle. Oh,
BTW, my newest baby is basically the same as the top rifle except mine has the removable carry handle. And I make my own slings, and my freinds slings as well. Guess I'm the sling guy!
