Ok not to start a bash, but who make the current military M4? And who just won the contract for the DEA gun.

FN is the current contract for the the M4 not Colt and RRA won the DEA contract.

I own two Colt ARs a pre-band HB 20" and a post band 16" fixed stock. Neither gun will come even close to shooting as well as my RRA Elite Car A4. To make my post band fit tight it has worn a wedge almost since it ws new.

One thing about Colt is they do retain there value and it's almost better than money in the bank. I got my pre-band for just over 700 new and I could get almost 2K now.

I have the great part time job of being able to handle all types of new ARs and I ranked them according to how they fit when right out of the box.

Alaskapopo, your right my life isn't on the line if my gun jams but I can't shoot my best if a gun does run and I can't call my shots.

IMO if I was still in the Guard and in Iraq right now going door to door I'd **** can the M4 and be carrying a AK, and if I was in Afy I'd find a M14

WRONG. FN is not allowed to make M4's. (patent issues) FN is the current contract holder for M16's. Colt makes all the M4's. Please check your facts. That is the reason its so hard to get any leo or civilian Colts right now. All their effort is going towards military guns. Also RRA was not the only company to get the DEA contract. It was one of a few firms. RRA just advertises the crap out of the fact they got picked as well.

As for your Iraq plan AK's are fine and dandy until you get past 100 yards or until you hear a loud click because you are empty. then their is the sights and the crappy safety. The M4's (colts and HK 416's) are running fine over there with proper maintenance.

Colt and LMT are the only two production companies going right now that I would trust for a serious gun. I own an RRA in 9mm. I have had the bolt stop break already, its very finicky about ammo. RRA is ok but its still second tier.

Also upper to lower reciever fit is not a indication of quality. In fact I find it annoying that my 9mm RRA is so hard to take down. It does not help accuracy one bit.

Pat

True Colt is the best maker of AR's going and Glock makes the best mass produced production service pistol. They are both the best at what they do. (The 1911 is best as a custom handgun and its the only pistol I rate higher than a GLock)

Facts are facts.

The simple fact is Colts peform better and are the choice of more real world operators (military and leo).

Ive owned one AR and its a RRA. Throught the years, its never given me a hint of problems, its never failed to feed, fire, or eject. I use it hard, it goes into the woods with me, it gets banged around and it gets abused shooting USPSA matches. Im not saying its better than COlt, I dont know but I do know that I would carry my RRA to hell and back if needed and I wouldnt worry one bit about its reliability!

There will be another upper in the safe soon and it will be a RRA as well.

Alaskapopo, If your such a Colt guys why don't you ahve a Colt 1911 and use a 2nd tier Kimber and your Wilson isn't a Colt either

As far as your real world operators (military and leo) go I would dare to venture that us compitition shooters put more rounds down range than 2 or 3 real world operators. And I know for me I demand alot higher degree of hits than most LEOs even get.

My RRA has upwards of 15K through it and it will shoot 1 moa all day and the only thing I've replace is gas rings

So with this I disagree with your accessment of the all and mighty Colts.

And agree that the 1911 is the best gun design there is, Glocks are good but the XDs are better
