Stag Accuracy Issues?
I've read on AR15.com that their was/is an issue with the FSB on some Stags. I seem to have one of the out of spec AR's. However, I'm a little hesitant to send it in to Stag since I hear mostly they are just replacing the upper.
Under normal circumstances I'd be fine with this, but I've added on quite a few things and also have what I've been told was a limited run of Stag uppers made in a 1:7 twist, MP tested. Just wondering if any others have had accuracy issues with their Stag AR's?

I sold mine but it was fine when I had it. Being its customized they will probably just fix yours and certainly wouldnt give you a 1/9 twist 16" for your 1/7 14.5". Give them a call. They are a good company to deal with

I asked you this in another thread, but why don't you just pop the pins and straighten the FSP? Or hell if the specifics on the barrel mean that much, just drop a YMH gas block/flip up sight on it?

I have multiple Stag uppers, and all of them were fine. One upper did have the FSB pins in opposing pattern, but it didn't effect the sight, just the removal of the pins for a free float.

As far as I can tell either the front sight base is out of spec (which is discussed quite a bit on AR15.com, http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=...=311257&page=1), or the front sight post is. Nothing is crooked or bent, that I can see. To get my Eotech to co-witness I had to nearly bottom out the front sight post. (I haven't shot it to check the zero since the EO was installed.) I get your point on the YHM flip up, but my point is I shouldn't have to drop an additional hundred bucks (money isn't really an issue, I'd just like my AR to be a performer, not a dud.) or so to get my M4gery to shoot like it should from the factory with the irons. I've considered the LMT Adjustable Rear Sight (http://www.lewismachine.net/product....4eaa3d849aeec0) At least then I could adjust my elevation when needed without having to adjust the FSP. The only downside of going that route is I wouldn't be able to lower it out of the way like I can with the ARMS 40 that is currently mounted. So far I've got 3 emails out to Stag and as of yet haven't gotten a response from them, I guess it will take a phone call. (Stag had responded to my earlier email, but it was caught in my spam blocker.) If anyone has opinions, or ideas on how to resolve this please feel free to chime in. Thanks in advance.

What is your "idea" of co-witness ? Zero the irons @ 50 yards then put EoTech on Zero the Eotech @ 50 yards the center dot of the Eo should be slightly above or right on top of your front sight post. Mike

I prefer an absolute co-witness over the lower 1/3 so-witness. I'm accustomed to the A2 style rear sight (that wind age & elevation can be adjusted) VS the ARMS 40 (which only wind age can be adjusted) causing any elevation adjustments to be made with the FSP. I received a response from Stag, so I'll send it in to have it checked out by them. I'm at a slight disadvantage when it comes to fooling with my Stag (CA resident; Yes I need to move.) so I keep my carbine at a friends house in NV and can only shoot it every few months.

"high" To lower your point of impact you need to raise the front sight. If it is too short (meaning threads are showing as in the pics on the thread in ar15.com) you could try the .040" taller front sight post like Bushmaster sells. "to the right" if you have run out of adjustment on the ARMS 40, it sounds like your front sight base may be canted from vertical.

The wind age isn't much of a problem, I got that centered last time I was in NV. The elevation however became a PITA. If I remember correctly, before running out of daylight I had my FSP (rotated clockwise, up direction) nearly bottomed out (so the reverse of what the pics on AR15.com show.) and was still shooting high. But I was unable to do much with it that way as it was dark by the time I got to that point and my buddy who was spotting for me couldn't see.

http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/sightIn/
if you are turning the fsp so that it is screwed all the way down, no wonder you're shooting high
