I just tell my wife I got a good deal "on sale" cause I have my own bank account I put my "tips" into. My check goes into our joint account. I don't use any of the "joint account" money for my toys/hobby expenses. She really does'nt care or ask how much it costs. I just save-up some tip money for my next purchase, guns, ammo, accessories, motorcycle chrome parts, computer games, etc. Always have my eye on something new, never satisfied...lol.

I'll venture a guess that he's got something along the lines of a magpul ranger plate, using 100mph tape and a length of para cord.

Ok, so Ive seen the AR's that have what I think they call an A3 upper (a flat area where you can mount your own optics) but I notice that many will have a red dot or equivalent then just a little further back there is a rear sight of some sort. The thing that I don't get is that it is not close to being level with the front sight. If your red dot goes out does that rear sight get manually elevated and used with the front sight? Sorry, I really don't know much about AR's but hope to get one someday.

Most likely the rear sight is a flip up/down unit. Just a guess....

You are correct.

It's referred to as a BUIS (Back Up Iron Sight) and is flipped out of the way when using optics.

There are also BUIS's that look like a chopped carry handle and do not flip but those are always there and can look busy. In some cases the BUIS is a chopped A3 handle.

You can co-witness the BUIS and front sight post with the optic. This means the red dot, hologram, reticle, or whatever is on the top of the front sight post when lining up the iron sights.

You can also cowitness in the bottom 1/3 of the optic so it is not in the way. This is done by using a space or higher mount for your optic.

Thought I'd add to the growing list of AR-15 pix.

Here's what's in it.
1. Wilson 16" midlength chrome lined barrel
2. Continental upper
3. A2 front sights
4. Viking Tactics mid length free float tube
5. Midwest Industries back up iron sights
6. Aimploint - clone (currently evaluating options)
7. DPMS phantom flash suppressor
8. copy of FN-SCAR front boom handle/bipod system
9. DPMS lower complete group
10. ERGO ambi grips
11. Ace Skeleton ARFX stock
12. Accu-shim
13. DPMS black teflon coated 30 rd mags (magpuls to be added)

Cheers,
