I was in the same boat trying to decide between the red dot + magnifier or a 1-4 scope. After alot of research i was confident that the millet would be a quality piece. You can find alot of info an ar-15.com and m4carbine.net, thats where i read all my reviews at. For the money you will not beat the millet dms-1. It gathers light really well, i had no problems getting on target quick in the dark. The picture is crisp and clear with no distortion. The lighted reticle is great, on the 11 setting it was more than bright enough while remaining clear with no distortion. The 1 settign was more than bright enough in low light shooting.
Positive clicks on windage, elevation and brightness. It does not turn off between brightness settigns (not an issue for me but it might be for you). The included lens caps are decent but i can see them not wanting to stay closed as the age. I havent had it long enough to see how the batt life is but from what i read its good. There is storage for a spare batt under the top turret cap.
I am very pleased with the purchase granted this is not a 2k S&B scope for the money the millet dms-1 is by far the best scope in this price range. I snagged mine on sale at midway for $215 shipped i think they are back up to the regular price of $230 plus shipping.
